The 4.0 Swap was chump change compared to this - Look inside...

Ain't afraid!

:D :D Man after my own heart, if it don't fit right, cut, move, beat on, change, build and finish it till it does. No fear, if someone built it you can improve it! Dang thats a big chunk you whacked outa' that frame!

well i could have j rigged it and ground the head of the bolt down, but it needed to go in so the axle could be centered under the rig, had to happen. Yeah im not scared to take a grinder or sawzall to this thing. kinda got stalled on it, that was on friday night, i cut out the patch for it on saturday but i haven't touched the bII since then. need to get my a$$ in gear.

filled in a little hole i had in the side of my frame today, just need to finish up the filling and its on to the mounting of the coil buckets. on a seperate note i got a new coilover im thinking about using, its pretty sweet check it out,

yes that is a regular passenger car shock with 2 exhaust clamps holding on a random coil of some kind, lol.

Nice looking welds on that patch. Hard to tell from the pic but it looks like you might have to roll, bend or piece small pieces in the top and bottom gaps to fill that in. I know you said that you still need to fill in. Or as I'm sure you know may get some structural cracks there due to all the twisting form engine mounts and more importantly the track bar that is welded right next to it. Or worse from doing those lava rocks which I can't wait to see pics.

Great find on that coilover. And to find one with that progressively wound spring, is well, just icing on the cake.

On the rocks

Yeah you'll be wheelin' before you know it...may not seem like it to you but your on the down hill drag to the finish!

thanks fellas, yeah Rick im going to run down to the shop on friday afternoon and build a peice to fill that gap, my buddy has a brake which should bend the 1/8th" plate ill prob use for that, otherwise ill throw in in the vise and use a big adjustable wrench to bend the proper angle in it. my main thing is I want to use a single peice rather that weld 2 together bk your right, thats where the tracbar mount is and also where the steering box is, thats a lot of stress in itself. still need to figure out how to reinforce that tracbar mount, i didn't want to put anything in until i have the coil buckets and coils in to see where im really at and what kind of room i have.

cut out my template on a piece of cardboard, cut it out and then to make the bend cut about halfway through the steel with a cutoff wheel on my angle grinder then bent with a adjustable wrench in the vise

so here is the finished product, hopefully ill have the chance to get the coil buckets mounted this week sometime, then it will be sitting on its own weight.

decided to go crazy and get the other one in, ill probably have it sitting on its own weight tonight. pretty excited to be able to move the dang thing again.

wow previewed that and realized its a pretty crappy picture, oh well you guys get the idea

Nothing quite like the looks of a solid axle to make a statement

Hey, what kind of rear axle is in the pickup? Hmm
And what's with the garter strap on the mirror?

lol i can't take the rear axle out of my tow rig, but its a dana 60. Its actually a carabiner hanging from the rearview, my wife keeps all that stuff in the house ;). I used to rock climb competitively but i quit bk i have problems with the tendons in my right arm, nothing that effects me day to day but enough to make climbing at a high level not possible.

nice to get that thing out of there for a few hrs to get the garage cleaned out, not movable on jackstands haha. so after i change out a front wheel bearing on the subaru ill move the bII back in and tear the rearend apart, probably tonight, i want to get this thing moving, and more importantly crawling.

Beautiful

Good to see your fine progress Jon,,,great job!

thanks fellas. the truck belongs to my little brother, we have actually switched it back and forth between us a few times, few different engines, but now he owns it. it was sitting out in the woods at my dads house and i could tell if we didn't get it moving it would rot away, so i basically gave those tsl's to my brother so he would get going on it. its moving now and his plans are now for a 3 link in the front to replace the radius arms, cage coils, and 63" chevy springs in the back. we took him out rock crawling and i think he is hooked, we are going to do some tubework to protect the body but remain subtle and retain the 70s ford look. its going to be fun but i told him we can't pull it into my garage until after the first day we take my bII wheeling haha.

as for the bII I need to pull it back in the garage, get it back on jackstands so i can pull it apart and paint everything, sitting out there as raw metal right now and honestly it could snow here any day, already did 2 weeks ago. ive slacked this weekend on working on it, ive had a pretty serious cold and we decided to go wheelin yesterday, ill post the link to the vid once i get it made. but the show must go on so ill go push it into the garage and get the front finished and start teardown on the back.

these are the "new" leaf packs i came up with, mostly the explorer packs but with the main leaf eyes cut off and the bII main leaf added on. ill throw these on and see how much lift it gives me. on the front i came up with 3.5" or so, i expect these leaf packs to give me around 2" so ill need to come up with another 1.5", probably in the shackles.

haven't gotten much done on this, went wheelin again yesterday. Today Im going to get the new packs in and bolted to the axle, set it down on there and see what i came up with lift wise. If its high in the back thats probably ok bk im considersing going up a bolt hole on the front coil buckets. Really cool that i got the ballistic fab coil buckets that are adjustable.

happy halloween everyone. I put my "new" leaf packs in today, got it sitting on the axle and was amazed to find im within 1/4" of the front, it is sitting very level as is. And where the front spring are likely to settle and the springs I put together are not really likely to settle at all i think ive got my lift figured out.
