The Dealership Treated Me Right . . . Did I Just Say That?

After a search for keys Monday morning, I discovered that the only key and fob I have are locked in the X. I took the title to the dealership and they cut me an entry only key within 10 minutes for $3.18.

You should be able to get in but don't hold your breath it may not start the truck. For '03you have to still program the key with the PCM before it will start, its called PATSII. You need two working keys before you can program it yourself. If you have only one that starts the truck you need a trip to the dealer and $45 to get it to work.

really?!?!?

The only times I've had good experiences at dealers is when it's a dealer that doesn't have what I want.

I'm prolly never gonna make another trip to the dealer I got my mounty from because they weren't the best.

I totally agree Joe. When i bought my ex it was used. About a month after i bought it i heard my front disk brakes squeeling like they needed to be replaced. I took it in and an hour later i had a set of $300 brake rotors (front) for nothing. I didn't even pay a single penny. Heck they even within the same hour replaced the weather strip on my driver side door, and my over drive switch for not a single cent. Ha talk about fantastic treatment I WILL BE GOING BACK TO KEMP FORD IN THOUSAND OAKS CALIFORNIA. FANTASTIC SERVICE AND GREAT SMILES.

I had to do the same thing in my 03. May have been 4 and some change for a key that will unlock the doors. They wanted 85 dollars to hook my explorer up to a computer to give me the factory code for my keyless entry.

call your local locksmiths. many have the programmers.

Damn the '04 I bought this weekend only has one key and fob. I called the local dealer and they said $180 for the key/fob/and hour of labor. There has to be a cheaper way to get a working key.

$180 sheesh did you buy the truck from them? Did they throw the second one out? I wonder why so many used Ex only come with one key, you get two from the factory.

You can also get the key and fob off fleabay. I only paid $10 for the fob, and $10 for an uncut key with transponder.

For '04 you have PATSII keys with a transponder that is coded into the PCM. If you buy the above key and take it to a hardware store and have them cut it. It will unlock the door, but will not start. NOW call the dealer saying you have the key and you only need to Program the one old key and new key into the PCM. That has varied from $45 to $100 yes and its only 10min of work if that. What they do is hook the PCM up to WGS and add the key. Some have said some locksmiths also have a computer that does the same thing.

If you have two keys you can put the PCM in add mode and do it yourself.
