So I just bought a 96 Limited with 117XXX to replace my 95 XLT, which finally passed away. When I test drove it, the Check Engine light was lit, but the guy I bought it from said it was an EGR issue. Drove it home, through town with no problem. But when I took it on the highway, the O/D off light began to flash at around 55 mph. Did some reading here, and then got a couple of codes - yep EGR, but also P0756 and 752. Drove it into the local transmission pro, and had him drop the pan. He says the second gear band is gone, with NO evidence of pieces parts in the pan. Guess that means a previous owner found the problem and removed the parts without repairing it.
So my question is, do I continue to drive it as is, or invest the bucks to drop the tranny and fix it? I will use it to run short errands and drive to go fishing around Wisconsin.
Any thoughts? Oh, and thanks to all for the wealth of helpful info on this site. It has already saved me a lot of time and money!
