I had a question for everyone.

I want to know if there is a difference between the '92 Explorer 8.8 and the '98 Explorer 8.8. I have a buddy of mine that wants to sell me his True Trac out of his '98 so i can put it in my '92. Is there any difference between the 2? I called 4 wheel parts and they claimed the only thing i should worry about is ABS.

My car has ABS, i believe, i mean i slam on the brakes they pump and dont lock up :D so im guessing if he does too then there isnt a problem? He also has 4.56 which i will be using too so no problem there.

Could be more differences, but the '98 axle will have disc brakes instead of drum brakes (not necessarily a bad thing).
Your '92 came standard with RABS, and '92 was before 4 wheel ABS was offered. The '98 ABS sensor in the diff might not be compatible with the RABS computer, but I would half expect the RABS sensor to fit in the same hole as the '98 speed sensor.

Oh so they have a differnent sensor for the ABS? or i gues RABS? intresting. i tried calling 4wheelparts and they were unsure. Im gonna see if i can try calling them again or maybe another 4x4 shop and see what they say.

anyone else know about the '92 RABS and the '98 ABS compatability?

That truetrac will work fine in your 92 internally there isnt anything different in any of the explorer 8.8s. The biggest difference among them in is you have drum brakes and his has disk brakes. The abs isnt an issue, all explorer 8.8s have a tone ring for abs.

I just talked to Chad and Kevin at the 4wheelparts technical service department and they had no idea. they both said it should be the same but yet they had no confidence in their word so i dont trust what they said.

That truetrac will work just fine in your 8.8

I appericate it Doug

That's why you don't want to ask 4 Wheel Parts for any type of technical advise. lol That, and they are our competitor. :D

The true-trac will work great! Good luck!

I have never really had much luck with them. A while back i bought the spindlenut upgrade kit for the warn manual hubs from them and they didnt even know you needed a spindlenut tool for it. Kind of dissapointed in their "technical department," that doesnt know ****.

Actually i had a friend get the 'Genuine Gear' with ARB lockers installed in his Jeep like 3 months ago at their shop here in charlotte. He broke the R&P in like they said, he drove it home, let it rest until the next day then 500 miles later replaced the gear oil... when we got around to replacing the oil we opened up the rear diff cover and saw the Ring gear looked like freekin cheese; chewed up metal all over the place. The front diff looked OK, they replaced it for free since there was no way it was installed right... they probably did **** for checking the pattern...
