We should start a new post on that. I've found the Sony 350 Digital8 to work very well and transfer a terrific image to the computer. And yes bandwidth and dialups make videos problematic. Nice to hear from you V8- you do fabulous photo illustrated posts!

Sorry about the download time. I guess I'm spoiled by having a cable modem.

My video cam is a Sony DCR-TRV130. Its a couple of years old but works great. We originally got it so the GF could film herself teaching as feedback.

The new video cams are getting so much smaller, its amazing. Definitely get a digital cam, you can download the movie and edit with no loss of quality.

Hmm an Explorer site, but what the hey...what say we start a thread on enhancing posts with photo and video?

tonight i tried making my IAC go "whoo" by putting my finger over the hole...but there was no "whoooo". does that mean i have a clean IAC? i dont think its clean cause my airbox was humming a couple days ago

BTW - when i unpluged the IAC wires 4 out of 5 times the engine would die

I like how we think you are done, and then right before the video cuts you toot it twice. I can tell you really enjoyed it.

Did you press hard with your finger?

When I was doing it, I had to lightly press my fingertip or thumb over the hole - don't close it off completely, leave a small opening between your finger and the opening.

You may have to experiment a little to get it. ;)

Turn on your A/C when unplugging the IAC - see if that helps. My A/C is on pretty much all the time here ;)

Glacier... my man...

Look I was Trying marval at how tecnolgy has changed. I didn' t mean to step on toes, and yes I give kudos to dogfriend! After all I didn't post any videos, hell I havn't even posted any pics here.

So May we see much more video here in the future.:D

Sorry man, it worked for me.....

I wouldn't worry about it not idling with the IAC unplugged, its supposed to do that. I'm not sure why mine keeps idling, but I know that my idle speed is toward the high side of spec (750-830 rpm) so that might have something to do with it.

The engine should idle at a very low speed when the IAC is unplugged; somewhere around 450-500 rpm. Then when the IAC is plugged in, it should raise the idle to normal. (A scanner should read about a 32-38% duty cycle on the IAC.)

If the engine dies, first try cleaning the throttle body, where the throttle blade closes against the TB housing. This will probably help the idle. If it dosen't, then the throttle stop screw can be turned in slightly, to obtain a slow idle. Then plug in the IAC, and check the voltage on the TPS. JamesT's thread has a lot of info on TPS adjustments.

Anyone have any idea what else would cause the intake to HUMMMM? I replaced the IAC with an OEM ford unit, and it still makes the noise.

Is it possible the intake gasket is shot?

There's a sound I don't miss. I was told by this old farmer guy in a chevy to take my Explorer out back and shoot it. Anything that makes that kind of sound must be in constant pain and agony:rolleyes:. So I p/u a new one at O'Reilly's for $35, cleaning it didn't work. Plus when I put the new one on I gained almost 2/mpg:D

I just noticed that they are starting some new forums, including a forum for photos and videos

Hey, I swear mine was doing that the other day, and now it keeps stalling on me right after startup. Anyway my first gen doesn`t have that little filter assembly like in the video, it`s just an enclosed tube. Does mine still howl? I just keep finding guys with second gens with this complaint so maybe it was something else?

The first gen Explorers have an earlier version of the IAC that doesn't appear to have a vent. If you are stalling when you put the truck in drive (or letting out the clutch if manual) maybe your IAC valve is sticking closed. My first one failed this way.

I'm posting pictures of both types of IAC: first is the older one without vent, the second is a drawing showing the guts of the newer vented IAC valve

Ya, that`s mine in the top picture, we were out wheeling and I could hear this low "ooooooooooooo" that would come and go and it stalled a few times. Now when it`s cold it starts, revs up a bit, then the rpms drop too low and it stalls. It sounds like the bad IAC symptoms, I just wondered if it was only the vented ones that howl.

-edit

I cleaned the MAS and AIC with carb cleaner and it hasn`t stalled again so maybe I got lucky..
