Hey guys! Ok a little back story. A little over a month ago, I got this 97' Expo with the 4.0 SOHC. It had the death rattle. So I yanked the engine, and replaced the entire timing assembly aside from the balance shaft chain.

One issue I did have was that the rear most cam cap on the drivers side was galled fairly bad. Fortunately, I was able to get a handful from another SOHC at the junkyard, and it fit perfectly. I even plastigauged it, and made sure it spun easily. It was perfect.

Now we've only driven it around 20 miles since I got it running nicely, but now I'm having issues. I went to start it Saturday, and out of no where, there's a fairly loud rattle noise. It's not quite like the timing chain rattle, but still quite bad. It sounds like lifter rattle in a pushrod engine.

What the hell could this be? Keep in mind my guides, tensioners, and chains are all brand new. The only thing I can think of is, since it happened suddenly one one startup, maybe the passage to the front hydraulic tensioner had debris and got clogged after it was shut off once. It definitely sounds like it's coming from the front.

Also, one more thing. If I take the oil cap off while it's running, it doesn't really get louder. Also, I can't see the chain jumping around or anything...
