I think so too. But it'll be a while before I can afford the $50k for the car and then another $50k for the mods. That's why I'm bulding up the X I already have! Besides, by the time we have paid off our student loans and have some real disposable income, I'll end up getting the new H4.

Oh, and by the way, my wife wants to have 6 kids (we have one now), so we may never have ANY disposable income.

:) :( :) :( :) :(

(don't know whether to laugh or cry!)

I think its about the coolest vehicle on the road right now. I went by and looked at them, I dont know why people call it a plastic machine, there's hardly any plastic on it. its huge, has a lot of space, a lot more than the H1. It has huge market appeal, and they can't keep them on the lots. This dealer had 16, and ALL of them were sold. It was going to be 6 weeks before they got any that were unsold, and they were sure to be sold before they arrived. People are trading in H1s on them because they're just more sensical than their current vehicles.

Its a huge and runaway success. There's a used one at a Jeep dealer down the way with 8,000 miles on it, they're charging more than new because you can't get one. I drove by there yesterday, it was sold.

Its H2 mania, and as long as the masses are happy, then the vehicle is exactly what its supposed to be.

I drove the yellow one I posted pictures of. Personally I think they're hideous. Even worse when lifted.

Look at this thing... The grass it's sitting in is nearly up to the skid plate.

looks like a friggen school bus

Better lifted then lowered

Nope, not joking. I was certain I was going to get a new Superduty and install a full Banks performance package and propane, but this also would do nicely.

Is it because it's a GM machine that you don't like it? And with 700 hp and 0-60 in 4.9 seconds it doesn't need a diesel.

Also, you seem to forget that the Explorer is the most mass-produced SUV out there.
Umm no, I don't like it because it is a waste of resources. It's too wide to be a good off-roader, it gets the gas mileage of a big-block with small-block torque, it looks like a plastic nightmare, and if it's to be a serious off-roader, it needs to do something about how low the driveshaft and skid plates are mounted. The better question is why would you buy one?

Oh yes, they're expensive

GI Joe wannabe...

I personally think they are trash. I hate the way they are marketed to be "all american". I heard some a-hole on the radio going on and on about his Humvee this his Hummer that, and then he says his H2! Then he says anyone that bashes the H2 may as well bash the flag  What a loser. The H2 never did a damn thing for this country except take money from stupid people and give it to GM. For 100k I'd build something that was totally custom, prob more efficient, and a little less yuppie.

How many threads have I seen where people have recalled stories about greenies accusing their Explorers of being just this, a waste of resources. In those threads everyone has exclaimed how stupid these people were, and how they just didnt understand. Now we're saying that the H2 is a waste of resources because it doesnt fit our description of what a vehicle should be? The next thread about an anti SUV article better have zero replies.

As for it being too expensive, since when is that a crime? Thats how it works, GM set the price where the market would bear it, and bear it it does. Its no more expensive than its competition.

From what I've heard and read, it IS a serious off roader. Much better then the Chevy/GMC on which it was based. Go and read the reviews inthe magazines. Pretty much all of them have given the H2 high marks for off-roadablility. It's much more capable than a stock Explorer (even many non-stock Explorers).

Concerning milage, many of us are getting the same milage that this thing gets in our Explorers. Throw on some larger tires and add weight with bumpers, lights, whatever, and soon an Explorer is getting 10 mpg.

As for the price... I't ll keep the riff-raff from driving them. Actually Stephen got it right. Supply vs. demand. It'll cost what the market is willing to support.

Doc, I still got 16MPG with 33's and 4:56 gears. I haven't checked fuel economy lately since it's barely driven on the street anymore. The only Explorers I have ever heard getting 10MPG had a broken fuel pressure regulator and it was pumping raw fuel in the motor!

Give me 60k and I'll build you two of the most impressive Explorers you could ever imagine:D

I'm sure they offroad just dandy in nice wide open spaces. Lets see them in some thick forests with trees waiting to eat your body work on both sides or in some of the rock canyons we go into. Or even the ditches or the notches at Truckhaven. I guess as you guys are saying though that messing up a 60k truck wouldn't matter to you since you have the money to keep fixing it.

During our AZ run this year we met a few guys in a REAL Hummer. You could see he used it offroad. He showed me a map and asked me where Anaconda was. I said "you plan on taking the Hummer through Anaconda?" He said "yeah". I told hime Anaconda was the narrowest trail I'd ever seen and I wouldn't even take my Ex down it. I reccomended he try terminator first since they both start at the same point.

He took my advice and tried Terminator. Turns out he busted his truck big time and had to camp out there for 2 days. He broke a half shaft and ripped the steering box away from the frame!!

We took 3 Explorers through there with no mechanical damage.

thats what I was thinking...something that is too expensive would be the new aviatiors and explorer limiteds.

The H2 has started to grow on me, I dont know why, maybe becuase I see at least 40 of them a day here. I think it is kinda cool too since you can take off the 35s and fit 37s stock.

Just an innicont question but, I kinda wonder what some people would think if Ford had a similar product, would yall still hate it at much?

Ok, I have to agree with Stephen. I'm not a big H2 fan, but come on guys, you all are starting to sound like the kids that come on here talking about their J**Ps. Just because we don't like, doesn't mean it's a piece of S**T. I mean the X was never meant for any serious off roading, but we've proven that it can. This is just a matter of an over-priced vehicle that most will never see dirt, that's not the vehicles' fault. As far as gas mileage, if you wanna play, you gotta pay.

:chug: :chug:

I would much rather have an up-armored hmmwv like we did while in Kosovo. Now those are truly great machines!!! Of course get them with the bigger turbo deisel. The H2 is not liked by alot of people here probably because it was hyped sooooo much. When it doesnt fill any niche really that well. I compare the phenomenon of people liking that as to the same thing that happened when the people watched The Fast and The Furious and started ricing their cars even more thinking they were fast. Same thing i have seen with the B.S. hype there as i see here too with this kind of unfilled niche marketing. Either way that is just my opinion. Yall are allowed to buy whatever you want, but dont expect me to agree with some of your choices. lol.

The original Hummer, the H1 is much wider than the H2, it would be even MORE useless in 90% of our offroad trails...

Why dont we all hate it?

Offroaders do...

I meant the military humers not civilian H1's or 2's. But i think that the H1 is a little better because it is wider and lower giving less of an elevated frontal area target. Plus also the fact that it will be alot less likely to tip over if going over rough terrain at extreme sideways angles. Plus i can also get an old military hummer from DRMO for a really decent price. Plus also they already have the nonreflective camo paint and turret. Yes i would get mine with a turret and all. I would basically leave the outside stock looking. Except i would make sure it had the snorkel conversion. And also i would beef the engine up a little more and change the gears out a tad. But then i would redo the whole inside with a nice woodgrain floor where the big tabletop floor is. And i would install different seats in it. and basically it would be the best huntmobile there ever was. At least the H1 fills somewhat of a niche in my eyes. The H2 tries to be too diverse and through trying to do so it doesnt qualify itself for anything really. Besides maybe looks. But then again for that price would you want an H2 or rather have an Escalade (another ugly SUV IMO) or even a really nice Navigator. Or a built from hell Excursion with a big lift and huge tires with a really powerful engine and everything. It comes to preference. But all said and done i think there are much better vehicles in each of the classes this one tries to fill that would render their owners much happier.

funny, I've taken quite a few hummer's off-road and never snagged into a problem. If you want a skinny vehicle that can cover trails go get a J**P. Personally a lot of people on this board are starting to sound like the snobs they proclaim to put down.
