The one I sold...Like an idiot.

I have an 01 explorer, its in pretty good condition, closing in on 80k miles, kelly BB says I'd get somewhere around 4k for it, and the government will give me 4500 for it supposedly with this new cash for clunkers deal (i would never call it a clunker but apparently it is to Obama)...what do you folks think? Leaning towards keeping it till it dies due to the fact that I have a short commute and I just put a 1700 tranny rebuild into the thing.

See the title of this thread? If you like your truck and it's in good shape, really think about it before you off load it. And $4500 is nice, but how much will your monthly payments be on a new car?

Exactly. Unless your driving a complete "clunker, AKA P.O.S." id stay away from that little scam.

You might get 4500, but you have a very narrow selection, 90% chance you'll be driving a little car; plus your big car payments, higher insurance.

just my $.02

I must say I know the feeling. I had a red 96 sport 4.0, that thing was a little beast. I sold it and spent a week in Vegas with the money. And to this day that's the one car I wish I hadn't got rid of.

Hey, it looks just like my 99 Sport!!

Exact same interior too, leather, am/fm CD/cassette, moonroof, towing package, etc

Yeah, that was a nice ride.

FWIW and for future reference, it's dead easy to adjust the "transmission pointer". There is a little adjustment wheel under the steering wheel you just turn to tweak. I did mine a long while back after researching it on this site. Very simple adjustment.

Thanks. I understand thats pretty common. For the record, I used the money to buy a supercharged 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP that ran the 1/4 13.0 flat. It was great fun walking stupid people in their stock mustang gt's in my big ass 4 door land yacht but I soon learned the hard way that if you constantly race a car and constantly do burn outs you will blow the transmission even if it is a stage 2 race trans:thumbdwn:. After that escapade (and 4 points on my license:rolleyes:) I decided to return to the explorer side of life.
