Hello everyone I just want to tell you inform you of my stereo system:
Eclipse AM/FM Motorized TFT reciever
Eclipse Sound Proccesor
Eclipse 12 Disk Changer
Soundstream 5 Channel amp (200X1 150X4)
MB Quart 3-Way Seperates (6 1/2" 3 1/2" & 3/4" tweeter)
MB Quart 6 1/2" speakers
One MTX Stealth Box 10" Subwoofer
Two Kicker 15" Solobaric subwoofers

The Eclipse reciever is mounted in the midle console by the dash. The 12 disc changer replaces the 6 disk changer in the consol. The 3-way MB uarts are mounted in Q-Form panels and in the doors. The 6 1/2" woofers are mounted in the rear. The amp is mounted behind the plastic panel in the rear drivers side. Everything is pretty much stealth exept when the 15" are in the rear!

Thanks

Paul

hey how do those 15's sound??? i would love to put a pair of those in the back, but right now i only have 12's. anyway looks like a good setup

slick

How did you wire up all your subs with a 5 channel amp? I'm coming deadly close to getting some kick panels, but I just don't think I could give up the leg room. Is it very intrusive? Do you find yourself kicking them a lot?

Thanks,

Jon

ok, wait. all that and one 5 channel? you forget to list something? i have the solo-baric stealth box, and a pair of JL's, but i switch off if i need the trunk space. i dont run them at the same time, do you? if so, then why?

very nice brand selection.. love eclipse and MBQ

Wiring to the 5 channel amp.

Actually, the Soundstream amps are very flexible and damn powerful. I had two of `em in my old truck. It should be enough to power all those speakers. The 200x1 could be run in 2 ohm, which should be enough for those 15's. The MB Quarts could all be run from two of the 15 watt channels or from all four (fron/rear). Also, depending on the model of amp, those 10's could be run either from the other two 150 watt channels or along with the 15's, dropping the amp into 1-ohm. Just my thoughts.

Sorry if I confused anyone!

I don't run the 10" MTX subwoofer with the two 15" Kicker Solobaric subwoofers! I suspose I could do so but since the 15s take much more bass I don't bother running the 10 along with them! When I have the 15's in the Explorer I am able to dial in much more volume (THROUGH THE ECLIPSE SUBWOOFER + - SWITCH) and turn the cross over's (equiped in the Soundstream amp) subwoofer output down to 60 Hz (80 Hz with the 10" MTX)! The 15s sound great and yes I would agree that they would sound even beter if I install a more powerfull subwoofer amplifier) I plan to do this in the spring (maybe with a Memphis class "D" Subwoofer Amp)! I like the Memphis amp do to the amps small profile which is easier to hide under a panel (probably where the factory amplifier is located)!

Thanks.

Paul

so you switchoff like i do then? like when you need the trunk space? isnt it great to have the best of both worlds?

Nice choices on components...Take a look at my setup...

http://freeweb.pdq.net/gbishop/explorer

all phoenix gold wiring and 140amp circuit breaker under the hood.

Not the best pictures, but it was raining and the lens got a little wet...

As for the 15" solobarics, I don't understand why those were even made. The solobarics were designed for "twice the bass - half the space"...but if you have a pair of 15's, how is that saving space? I don't know...just rambling, not picking at ya...

nice setup, how much rattle/spl do you get firing straight back like that? I've been told I could reduce some rattle with that method.. but would lose spl.. I'm currently thinking about just living with the rattle.. I don't really want to pay $150 to stop it.

As a matter of fact, the only thing that I can hear rattling is the license plate frame while standing outside the truck. It also depends on the sustained note. Every now and then, I can hear a panel rattle, but it is nothing major. Firing the subs to the rear really helps with the development of the bass. I have tried several variations of boxes for explorers, and this is the best one for the money and time it took me to build it.

oops...forgot the rest of your questions...

As far as SPL goes, I haven't tried it yet. There is too big of a leak with the sound just travelling straight through the panels and glass. If I want to get serious, I would need to just gut the interior and lay down several rolls of dynamat, fills holes or creveces with bondo, put foam tape under the edges of the panels so they won't rattle against the metal, and totally rethink my sub box design. But for now, I would guess that I am nowhere near 140...maybe low 130's but then again, I listen to the music inside the truck and I don't want to go deaf any time soon...because if you are deaf, you can't listen to the music. You can buy Dynamat in a can...it is so simple. When I had my 97 Probe, I gutted the interior and went through a case o cans before I was done. It really helps and you might want to look into it. And thank you for your kind words.

I'm not gutting my interior.. it'd hurt.. even if I were going to put it back.. I kinda thought about having a place do it (I wouldn't see it) but $$$ and I'm not paying that much.. my old JL12w0s (which I'm selling both of and an amp for $350 btw) hit 135.9 in my current box.. my new subs are louder, but I'm yet to get an spl test. I have insane rattle in the hatch door, window, panel and my running boards.. my rear view mirror has just started.. grrr. I think I'm shaking it apart :(

As for ratles I don't have to much of them (normal to have some in the Explorer I supose)! I failed to mention that I also have Dina Mat glued to the inside quarter pannels of the explorer and even the doors have been sprayed with the liued version!

GBishop: To answere your question about why make 15" Solobarics! Well, I could have went with two 12" non-Solobaric 12" subwoofers which would have taken the same size enclosure used for the 15" Solobaric subwofers. If I went with standard 15" Subs I supose I would have (at minimum) taken up all the cargo space in the Explorer! At least now I can fit a few Groeceries in the back with the 15" Solobaric enclosure!

Thanks,

Paul
