I had to respond to a traffic accident yesterday afternoon. A head on collision between a mid 90's Crown Vic and what I think was a Saturn, but I'm not sure about the last one as it was struck head on, flipped end over end, landed on its roof, and was struck again in the rear. That Saturn was so scrunched it was not easily reconizable as anything other than a vehicle. 3 persons were killed, 2 were so horribly embedded in it they had to be extricated later, after the vehicle was removed from the scene. The Crown Vic did sustain major front end damage as it hit the Saturn head on then rear ended it. From the passenger compartment back was all in tact. Did have to use only a pry bar to get the front doors open. All passengers survived, although with serious injuries, but are expected to recover fully. The Crown Vics air bags did deploy and seatbelts were in use. The troopers estimated both vehicles to be traveling approx 70 mph. I'd buy a Crown Vic any day.

Crown Vics are tanks - big, heavy, and slow. They'll save your butt anyday in a nasty wreck.

I don't either, I used to have a 91 CV ex-cop car, one of the quickest cars I've ever owned. Damn when you'd get on it she'd throw you into the back seat!

My dad drilled a deer with a Crown Vic at about 65mph and walked away. Car needed a new grille, bumper, radiator, etc., but was repairable (no frame damage). They are tough cars!!

My granddad has a crown vic and his is slow. Cops have HUGE engines in their crown vics, much different than one they will sell to a customer. Maybe you took it out of context a little...

My grandmother has a 95 "civilian model", and it gets up and moves too. Does'nt have the take off like the police package, but it sure aint slow.

Just don't get hit in the rear at high speed..... Ford being sued as several police CV's have burst into flame due to the fuel tanks leaking after a rear hit......

I wasnt taking it out of context at all, you can get a crown vic with the same engine a cop car has... dont get uptight about it, i was just stating my opinion.

I wasn't getting uptight about it. I was just placing my experience with crown vics down on the table and you decided to voice yours, that is perfectly fine. While you may enjoy crown vics, I don't. I would love to see cops driving around broncos or expeditions, maybe even suburbans and blazers  , but that doesn't mean we can't disagree. Until next time......

My mom has a crown vic and that thing will run circles around my explorer and get double the gas millage while doign it ... we both have v8's

I've posted pics of these two cars on my X-site. Click on it in my signature then click on my fire pics.

The only engine mod that the regular run of the mill cop cars have that the civilian models don't is dual exhaust. That is straight from my mom's owners manual. She has a 95 Crown Vic and it is very quick. The dual exhaust adds 15 hp according to Ford and that is the only drivetrain modification. Things may have changed between then and now, and there may be some specialty "chaser" cop cars that are moderately modified. But the regular police cruisers are just like grandma's.

The 91 I had had a completly different motor along with the dual exhaust. Also the suspension was different and it had anti sway bar.
