So, with the 95 XLT getting on, in mileage at least, I'm looking into getting a daily driver replacement. Looking at Sport Tracs as I really would like a small pickup, but the two kids in the back limit what I can do there (if only Rangers came in Crew Cab:()

Anyway, I'm just wondering if anyone had anything I should really look for or ask about when looking at these vehicles, as far as trouble spots, parts that should or will need to be replaced. I'm focusing more on Gen 1 ST's particularly 04/05 as this seems to be more reliable model years according to Consumer Reports (Research, what is this madness I speak of? Must be getting old:p:)

Any help is much appreciated:thumbsup:

I had an '05 previously, for the same reasons. Kids got too big to fit in the back of my Rangers. Basically it was very trouble-free and I take good care of my vehicles but I'm not easy on them either. I had a wheel bearing and a ball joint go out on warranty but that was all. The stock shocks are junk when they roll off the transporter new, so if they're still there replace them ASAP and your rig will be much more pleasant to drive. If you plan to haul much, be sure to get one with the bed extender. The computer controlled transmission can get sloppy but disconnect the battery for 15 minutes, reconnect it, and drive it like you stole it for a couple days and it will be fine. Flush the tranny and change the ATF in the t-case if you can't be sure it's been done.

Yeah one thing i've gathered from checking around here is that the shocks are NFG. Everytime i buy a new vehicle, all the fluids get changed right away, wheels come off for an inspection, if they didn't before I bought it, basically the whole vehicle gets a thorough go over...

Geez, if that's the only problems I have to look forward to, I'm golden! Anything else people?

had mine for not too long, bought it used, wasn't even looking for a sport trac but a friend told me about his been happy ever since. Nice vehicle.
