Thinking about ordering the MAC intake..need some heads up

Ok not this week but next paycheck week I'm thinking about going ahead and ordering this MAC performance Intake kit for the 97-01 model Explorers V8. Now I've heard there's a risk that you could damage ur block in the winter with a CAI , if you drive through alot of puddles. Is this really a major worry? Plus how much of a boost in power can I expect to see? My Explorer is a 2000, 5.0 with the 2000-01 Flowmaster kit from Summit Racing(I think its the same as the 50 SUV series), Brand new Wrangler SA's, and just had an oil change yesterday with all Royal Purple Synthetic. I've got 121,100 miles as of now. Hope that helps. But are these a good upgrade for power to go alont with my flowmaster?

I wouldn't worry about it. I have has a Mac intake for years with no worries whatsoever.

It's a pretty good compliment for your exhaust, I ran a 17 flat at the track after my intake and exhaust, and they say they run around a 17.4 stock, so I would say that's a pretty nice boost in performance.

Ill say in the speed world half a second can be the difference between a close race and a dusting. I see u got the TMHs too. That'll be my last part as far as my performance mods go.Probably something to look foward to next spring. Did you installl your headers by yourself or at a shop? If at a shop, you know what kind of shop would even want to attempt a task like that?

Does not come with a cleaning kit. You can aquire one at any autoparts store.

Or you can do as I did and replace the filter with an Amsoil filter ( https://www.amsoil.com/storefront/eaau.aspx ) that never needs oiling.

So How will I know for sure if the cone needs replaces, is it just like any other filter when it gets dirty? Does it last as long as a K&N? One last question I'd assume this is an easy installation, either way I'll have my friends helping me with it but I don't need an re-tuning for this or a chip for it to operate right do I?

Don't replace it, cleam it.

It should if properly cared for.

lol sorry for another question it's just that I want to be ready and I'm going to order mine this weekend. If it doesn't come with a cleaning kit then what should I use to clean the existing cone with? Thanks so much though for all the help

Go to any auto parts store and purchase a K & N cleaning kit.

Welp just ordered my MAC intake kit, can't wait I'm excited for it to get here. Now that I got that taken care of one more obstacle befoer the final performance mod. I need to start saving up to take the EX to be serviced at the dealerslhip. I want ALL fluids except engine oil flushed and filled and with synthetics where applicable. Then I need to have my front suspension checked because of that popping noise and maybe rear wiper connection and brake check. Its going to be pretty hefty price but she'll run like a beast when done.

lol I'm not a mechanic. In fact I'm gonna need help from a friend just to put the CAI on. I could not even start to do a tranny flush.

Well it came in today. Only took my friend like 10 minutes to put on. I didn't even get a chance to follow he was going so quick. BUT, MUCH MORE POWER THAN BEFORE!! WOW it compliments my flowmaster so good. I now sound beastly and it seems to top out at like 5200 Rpms before shifting, used to only go to about 5000rpms. But is that whiney faint whistle sound I hear everyonce and a while a normal sound?

Yeah the sound is normal. Enjoy your intake, and probably lower gas mileage from not being able to keep your foot off the skinny pedal

You can also put an Outerwears (outerwears.com) cover on the filter and it will make you have to clean the filter less- it also looks good IMO. Too bad you cant even see mine

Is it safe to still take my Explorer into the car wash and clean under my hood or should I get that cover for it first?
