I checked out my buddies 73 Duster today. He bought it as basically junk and did a full restore on it. New everything. He has had 4 donor cars so far and still going. It is a california edition(1 of 100 made) that is so rare he has never even seen a picture of one with a sunroof like his. He gets his money thru body work and painting so he did all of that himself (ferrari yellow paint) and was about to swap in a 340 until he found a slant 6 with only 2500 original miles on it so he is twin turboing that engine. This thing will be turned into a show car because his cousin makes show cars. 3 tvs, dvd player, 20 inch chrome rims, slammed, etc. altho I think that is kinda ruining it, i still think it will be an awesome car when done. He has to get his licence first though lol. Just a little jealous and decided to share, anyone have nice Duster pics? or stories?

Where are the pics at?

Sounds nice, but 20" chromes on a '73 Duster is just wrong.

it doesnt have paint or rims and the engine is still going in so pics arent a go.

And as for the 20s, That is exactly what I said until I met his cousin who turns cars into show cars, now it is winning me over.

for the love of god tell him not to slam a duster or put 20s on it...throw in a hemi and slap on some steet slicks on some 17 inch turq thrust rims and make it sound like a muscle car should....carbourated motors..music to my ears.

Big muscle car guy here too...tell him to find a nice 340 of the 70-71 vintage and he will never regret it. Currently have a 70 Cam SS and an L-82 Vette...that little Duster with a 340 would eat my cars up and spit them out...

He just found a 340 for it we were about to start rebuilding it but first he is going to slap a twin turbo(dirt cheap) onto it until the engine explodes, then he is putting in the 340:D

It was kinda dumb to post on here cuz I agree, i am muscle car blooded and i laughed at him at first but he wants it for shows(never even seen a PIC of another one![sunroof]) and so he is going the show car route(for now).

i say hemi!!!!! forget the slant 6.....

more power.... whats the point of twin turboing a show car? make it announce its prescence with a 340 or hemi :)

I used to race a '72 Dodge Dart. Got it from my Grandma when I was 16 :D

When I was a kid my older brother used to own a Duster 340 and it would smoke 400+cu muscle cars that tried to race it. He went through about one clutch every week though, LOL. That thing would MOVE.

It's not my vehicle, but if it really was a vintage 340 Duster I'd restore it, it would be worth a heckuva lot to those who knew what it was, especially if it was a "California Edition" that really only had 100 made.

I say Restify rather than Riceify. The 340 is mo betta in the power department than the Slant 6, Granted the leaning tower of power will last forever but sheesh give it some chance to run away from the hideousness that lies in it's future. And if it's a rare car indeed then restore it to factory.

A friend of mine had a '74 Dart Swinger with the 225 in it. slow as molasses but it'd do 120mph in a straigt line. Turns were another story since it had no sway bar whatso ever on it.

damn Rick, you liftin' a tire in that first pic?

i really like the idea of new-meets-old in the musclecar scene. i want one built more as an SCCA road car. coilovers, huge swaybars, etc. with 17" wheels. i think just "dropping" it and throwing some 20's on it are gonna ruin it (to me). also, he does realize that the slant 6 aint gonna take much boost in stock trim, right? if he just wants to TT it until it blows up then he wont have to wait long.

BTW- this is how you make "big" wheels look good on a musclecar. and by "big", i mean 17's...

1 of 100, cool.. I really think if he wants to make it a valuable show car he should stick to stock as much as possible. I mean 1 of 100 could really be worth something. NOw if he starts "customizing", it will not only ruin the nastalgia, but the value also.

If he wants to fill it up wth DVD's, MP3's and LCD's, I would start with something a little more modern and definately not as rare.

It would kinda be like coming across and old Mickey Mantle card and sticking it on your bike with all the rest.

It's a '67. And we've all got differing opinions, but IMO those wheels are just wrong on an old mustlecar. To each his own I suppose.

Those rims look good, but they could be a little smaller so you could get more rubber on there.

well, those are only 17's. imagine some 20's.

i personally like the look of that mustang, because ive seen alot of old musclecars transformed into SCCA cars. a 17 is the limit though, for performance reasons and looks.

that is a '67. i am leaning toward a restification of my '66 mustang in the next year or so...lowered about 1.5", 325 or so hp, shelby hood, ghost shelby stripes, and 16" or 17" torq thrusts. other than that, all stock. should be a pretty good sleeper.

yes but this guy already has restored cars back to normal, now he wants to go a little more "spicy" for his daily driver.
As for the Hemi, that would be the obvious choice, except the engines cost more than the car and would make the car worth 5 times as much.

The Slant 6 is temporary until he rebuilds the 340...

And as for the Dart, he JUST sold(2 days ago) the 2 donor cars he had in his garage(one duster one dart), but man we had fun in the dart, we took it out and beat on it and jumped it and layed too much rubber:D
