Ok... I have a '95 X

The headlights are 55W style 9007

The fog lights are 55W style H3

Is this right?

There is a god chance that your fog ligh bulbs are in fact 899s and not H3s..Even though the manual states that H3s are used, 899s are used...
You can always check by taking a fog light bulb out of its socket and look at the connector..just make sure you dont touch the glass of the bulb with your bare hands or fingers...

Hope this helps...

I know they are 898... but can I replace them with H3's?

Nope...H-3 only go where H-3s have been.
You need a nice new set of PIAA lights.....

So 55 Watts is the max power of a bulb that can be replaced into a stock 1995 X correct? That way I won't blow any fuses or wiring and I will be safe? I imagine that if I were to replace the stock lights with another 55 watt bulb it would be much brighter and better or am I incorrect?

Why is that?

no 55w is 55w yes you can get superwhite or so but for about 20$$$$ each bulb it is not worth the difference

Yah, why the hell do they have H3 posted for foglight sizes?? A while ago i was going to go buy some, but i was like "go check to make sure" and i saw it said 899 on it. Not H3. Oh well.... :)

ya, mine has the same problem, youd think when they opened the manual up to change the words "ford explorer" to "mercury mountaineer" in 400 places in it they'd fix the h3 with 899.. but NOOOO I had the same problem.. if anyone finds an 899 superwhite, let me know, I still have stockers down there
