Hello...

Do a search on that high-mount brake light... I know different years of Explorers used different types of lights, and I think yours might use a Neon tube.

Rear defroster--The obvious first step is to check the fuse. After that, you might want to check to make sure there's no breaks in the defrost grid on the window. Does the little amber light on the switch come on when you press it?

As for the rest of the stuff, someone else will have to help you there. Also might be worth taking a look in the Transmissions section, I know there have been other users here with trouble with their 4x4 lights flashing and how to fix it.

thanks for the reply!

NO the amber light does not come on the rear defrost button and i checked the fuse.
I think I know what the 4 wheel drive flashing problem is the hall speed sensors are very dirty and gummed up
The one question I have is I was having a problem with the turn signal flashing due to a loose blue wire going into the connection for the multifunction switch could it be possible the other wires in this connection that were also loose have anything to do with my other issues what do the other wires going into the switch control?

The GEM computer controls many of these functions. It is located behind the dash. Try reseating the connectors or wiggling it. You may need a new one., you can find it from an online dealer.

GEM Swap

Nope the whole time the problem was 6 mos ago i swapped the gem with a junkyard not the best idea! The GEM's obviously are vehicle type specific put the old one in stopped everything!!!

Third Brake light

Yes my 97 hase the gas tube style light just checked after the GEM swap seems to be working now!

The GEM modules are likely an issue when multiple electrical problems start together.

FYI, the GEM is different for 95-97, and 98-01, for each of 4WD and not 4WD. Meaning that there are four GEM modules for 95-01 Explorers. AWD means nothing, what matters is whether it is 4WD or not. Good luck,
