throttle body spacer

I was thinking about buying a throttle body spacer for my 03 xploere 4.0l does anyone have one installed or know if they are as good as they say..

I read in this forum that they don't work. I have also read test results that showed no gain in mileage hp or torque. Its just a waste of money inho.

Can anyone explain to me how they are supposed to improve performance on a port fuel injected vehicle? I can sort of reason why they could help a throttle body fuel injected vehicle (but I doubt that they do), but I could never understand what they are supposed to help on port fuel injected cars or trucks.

Popular Mechanics did a test on these devices;

Here's a quote from that article (the bottom of page 2);

Both devices reduced peak horsepower by more than 10 percent. The Intake Twister increased fuel consumption by about 20 percent; the TornadoFuelSaver provided no significant change.

In other words, a complete waste of money.
