Has anyone had any experience with a throttle body upgrade? Either the BBK or Vanir 66 or 63mm size? I have a chip, cat back exhaust, intake, and I am looking for the next step in performance. Headers are on the list but the installation and price keeps me from doing it yet. The manufacturer claims as much as a 20hp increase over stock.

Chad,

I have an order in now for the BBK 66 TB. It's been on backorder for a few months, but they just milled a new batch, so I should be getting mine soon. I've done quite a bit of research, and think that with the intake and exhaust mods we have the 66 will not be too big. On stock trucks, the Vanir 63 TB is better to avoid bogging down. After I get new headers and modify my intake tubing some more, I might get a new MAS, but for now the stock one is just fine.

If you go with the BBK TB, I recommend ordering it straight from them if you can, or from a "real world" store. Internet parts places recieve backordered parts last.

Hope this helps! Good luck!

Chad, I have a 63mm TB from Vanir. All I noticed was improved throttle response. If there was any improvement in gas milage, It's been too insignificant to show up on my calculations (I track each tank of gas).

If I had to do it again, I would rethink my decision for a larger T.

Thanks for the input and I appreciate your time. I am still not sure if I will be getting a TB but if I do I will consider your information. In the mean time I am working on an electric ram air induction similar to the E-Ram electric supercharger for the truck. I will post when I am done to tell you how it went.

That electric ram-air thing sounds interesting.how much would that setup cost? Post back when you finish to let us all know!

I just ordered the Vanir one because it was so cheap... Anyone know what the stock size is for the TB? Also, how much, and where can you find the BBK unit?

I think stock is 55mm. I ordered my BBK one from http://www.truckperformance.com. Next time, I would order it from a real-world store. BBK has a list of preferred retailers on their website (edelbrock).

Wow I just checked out that TB from Truckperformance.. thats cheap! I cancelled my order from vanir... so now I deciding on what to do... I just dont want that TB to be too big... I heard it could bog you down. Hmmm... Suggestions????

Cheaper$

Flyguy,

Are you looking at the same stuff, the Vanir is $190, and from truck performance its 194, it seems to be $4 more expensive for the parts? What am I missing?

Need headers

A catback exhaust will help the back of the engine breathe easier, but....

Upgrading your engine's front inhale won't help that much without more help on the backside exhale. You could go to 100mm intake but it won't matter if the extra flow can't blow out the back.

This mod works best combined with headers and catback both. As already stated, you will certainly notice increased response without the headers, but the real power and oomph ain't gonna occur until you can get that extra breathing out the backend too.

I didnt say cheaper I said cheap! :) for 4 bucks and another 3mm.. plus if I remember right, the BBK one is perty. :) Anyways, the throttle body is part of my other mods which are on their way. Which are headers, new cylinder heads, lifters, and slotted rotors... All I will really need then is a larger MAS.

Nick
