i was just woundering if anyone has a 66m preformance throttle body and if it made a difference in the sound ??? and if it added a noticable hp??? thanks jim
A throttle body and mass air together will only add about 5 hp. There will be better throttle response however. As far as the sound goes, I did not notice any difference. You will get much more hp out of headers.
You will notice it, but for the money, I don't feel it is worth it. If you change the cam...... or maybe go with forced induction, then I would say go for it.
I don't know about anyone else, but when I went with a larger MAF unit alone, I noticed a great difference. I go up very steep hills on the interstates (the ones where trucks run 40 and most people run 65) in 5th gear @75 with ease. Throttle response is great too. The TB should only be done after the MAF I would think.
I didn't notice much difference in off the line performance with the TB, but a big difference in highway passing power. You need some rpm on it for the TB to really do much. I haven't done the MAF yet, not sure if I will on the explorer after some of the reviews I've read on them in Rangers - i.e., not really making any difference in power.
Speaking from experience, don't waste your money on the mass air or the throttle body unless as stated before - you have a cam or headers - to add a couple... supercharger or NOS. I have the KKM, Flowmaster muffler, free flow cat, Jacob wires,etc. and when I installed the Mass Air and TB, I didn't really notice much of a difference. Save the money and use it on headers.
