throttle position percent at idle

with my scan tool my throttle position percent at idle shows 16% and at wide open throttle it only rises to 78%. it also starts to stumble if in park you ease into the throttle just a little bit. bad TPS?

does this engine have an IAC and if so where is it located at?

i can't check right now, but i'd be interested in checking with my scan tool. I'm not sure about the 4.0 but my 4.6 has fly by wire there for no IAC as far as i know.

just got back from the dealer and returned the IAC and ordered the TPS. so when that gets in I'll throw it on there and see what it does.

I installed the new TPS and it runs much better, went ahead and put in a new set of Motorcraft plugs too. idle percent still shows 16-17% at idle and 78% at wide open throttle so I guess that is normal. wide open throttle was checked with the engine off and key on.

My laptop scan tool shows 84% at WOT and 17% at idle. Similar to yours. I think the drive by wire keeps it from opening all the way. I do notice that I can set the parameters to make it read 100% at WOT on my laptop.

It doesnt really matter what percentage the TPS is at during idle or WOT -- the values are relative to each other, not absolute. The ECU will compensate for whatever the low end and high percentages are.

The only thing that would make it perfect is if it did ABS and Airbag codes. It does allow raw commands to be sent and receive raw data back, but you have to know what your doing to decipher the data. Also, it does work the the cheap ELM327 clones from Ebay, but dont expect more than 3 or 4 data streams to be active at one time, or it will crash. Maybe a name brand expensive scanner would be better for this. However I just got it to check cars out and read codes, not much data logging in my future.

Looks like the SCANXL supports the Airbag and ABS codes. http://www.palmerperformance.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=21_26&products_id=38 I think If I got one it'd be the SCAN XL, just for future upgradeability.....Isp since I have a GM Saturn...

Whats the Difference between the J2534 and the ELM?

The 2534 Look like a wireless type thing....and the ELM is a direct link thing?

Yeah SCANXL is the better, more expensive version of PCMScan. The demo I had looks the same but does more. ELM327 is just the name brand and model number of the chip inside the scanner. They both do the same thing. You can get a wireless ELM based scanner also. The cheap ELM scanners on Ebay are not really ELM brand chips, they have the numbers scratched off of them, but they work fine for most people. I did find some of the trial programs including the one they sent with the scanner don't work with it, and give an error stating that the ELM chip is not genuine and the program will terminate. PCMScan works fine with it, I assume ScanXL would also.
