2003 explorer stock 4.0
Hi,

On Friday I just bought an 03 Explorer with a 4.0 with 109k miles . I purchased it from a mechanic that said he just replaced the timing g chains. I test drove it and everything was working and running great. The next day I start it for it to warm up and get my kids in the back and start hearing a ticking sound coming from the front of the engine on the driver side. As soon as I put it in drive and start driving it goes away, it drives completely fine. I'm stumped with this one. Here is a video of the noise that it's making.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

There is no oil pressure getting to the tensioner for the cassette guide. First check your oil level, and top off if necessary, but I would definitely take it back or ask him about it.

Oil level was good but it seemed real thin and instantly soaked up into the paper towel. I will be taking it back tomorrow. Would this be an oil pump or can it be fixed with just an oil change?

Oil change won't fix that. Not sure if its the oil pump. Mine does that too since I had my chains replaces and I just limit the amount of time I let it idle in park, and I keep a close eye on my oil level.

When you said "tick" I was thinking the torque converter tick of like 1 per half second but that video is more of a constant rattle than a tick.
