i bought the cheapest set of 4 from autozone all for $60. they make a big difference, my original fronts were useless before and it was so obvious when i took them off.

No matter which one you buy,Kroil the hell out of all the bolts and studs a few days in advance...

I put Bilsteins on my '93 Sport about nine years ago and never regretted it. The vehicle handled noticeably better due to a bit firmer ride but that's fine with me. They're pricey, but probably will be the last shocks you will ever have to buy. It's an easy job, but definitely concur with niteclub79's reccomendation about using a little penetrating oil in advance.

I've been very happy with the Edelbrock Performer IAS shocks on mine. Very affordable, a stiff street ride and they work well off road. Not a comfy ride on the street by any means as you can feel every bump and crack in the road, but boy oh boy will it corner flat and hard. Like putting thicker sway bars on. Had them on for about 8 months now and their performance has stayed consistent.

I also just installed the Edelbrock IAS shocks this past weekend. What a difference! Some people on this forum don't like em. But I love em. Great ride! Stiffer than stock but still very nice!

i have an 01 sport and was thinking about putting on the gabriel max control from autozone i think theyre 58 a piece anybody out there use them before?

I have the Edelbrocks.......and I do not like them. Face it....Edelbrock is not a suspension or SUV/off-road expert oriented company.

They do not last long at all.

Logic should have told me to stick to a company that has a name (and experience) in suspensions and shocks.

IMO....buy somtin else.

The Edelbrocks that I have now just replaced my Gabriels. The Gabriels were crap. Only lasted about 30,000 miles and I only do very light off roadiing. They were only 26 bucks each. Fortunately I got my Edelbrock IAS shocks for only $30 each on closeout. I would never have paid full price for them.

I have had these on my F150 for 10 years....AND I LOVE THEM:

Agreed, I got mine for a little less than that, about $120 total shipped to Alaska. For the money and my driving style they're perfect. Edelbrock is definitely a street performance company and I'd buy their shocks again at that price for any street vehicle I own. The X sees hard street driving 95% of the time, so these shocks were perfect for me, and they work fine off road too. I've punished them hard by (accidentally) going over 90* curbs at high speed and they have always held up well, indicating to me that the inertia system works well going from a stiff cornering feel to soaking up a hard unexpected impact. I especially like that off road they regain composure extremely quickly.

The ride's definitely not cushy over bumpy roads but I really don't care. I think these shocks just get a bad rap because their benefits don't fit the average SUV usage. If I drove offroad more often or wanted a soft ride (and had more money) I'd buy nice shocks like Bilsteins.
