I need to get the universal joints on my rear axle replaced. I am getting the tell tale sign of the ticking when accelerating at low speeds. What I would like to know is if somone who has the book that says how much time it should take to replace them to let me know that time so I know if the shop is screwing me or not.

do u mean on the rear driveshaft going to the rear axle....if you do then a shop shouldnt charge you more than an hours labor for both of them.... that my guess.... do yourself a favor and buy the parts yourself then take them to a good mechanic and have him put them in .... youll save major bucks by not paying list price....

I've Replaced all 8 of my U-Joints and the rear shaft is the easiest. An hour is reasonable shop time (I can do the job within an hour and I'm no shop). While the drive shaft is out I would have them grease the slip yoke...

Take a peek @ the Info in my sig line (it has nice pics).. It shows how to replace the U-joints if your were to do it yourself..

Yeah, I did both ujoints in under an hour. Parts are about 20 bucks, and rent a balljoint press.

I would do them myself, but i don't have the time and I have to have them done for a 500 mile trip to and from Ohio this weekend.
