unsure of how to go about replacing chain without messing up timing. anyone know of how to do this without the use of a cam holding tool?

It's possible to do it without the tools, but you need to be careful. If you only need to replace the cassettes and tensioners there's no need to remove the chain. Here's a video on the procedure from Ford.

Well I tried just tensioners and guides but I think the cam moved a little because I tried turning crank by hand after I got it all together and I got 3/4 of a revolution and then felt it bind. I went slow while turning so I hope I'm ok but where to start now?
