I have just gone and bought for the miss's a explorer 98 with the v6 sohc..

As i am aware now they had problems with the timing chain.. they previous owner didnt inform me about any of these problems...

Anyway went to see the car and saw it had been very well looked after..

i have fished all the parts out and check to see if there is any other damage.. none found.. so what are the chance's of me going to ford and buying just this one guide with bolt? and also easy to fit..?

cheers steve..

bolt & guide

The rear guide upper positioning bolt can be individually purchased. PN: F77Z6U000BA

The guide assembly is no longer available individually. You have to buy the entire cassette. PN: 4L2Z6M290AA

Nice job on pulling the engine and finding the broken rear guide!

You mean the cassette entire, as in the "whole kit" has to be bought? And are these part numbers direct from ford??
I went to ford and they said I would have to buy the whole kit, I not cean on that was just going to get the guide that was broken and get her back on the road..

Cheers for the nice work commet... Just took a little bit of time...

Removed front timing cover and found more broken parts... So a full kit is on order... Anyone got a step by step guide to do the timing without the ford tool kit?

no step-by-step without tool kit

I'm not aware of any procedure posted on the internet for performing the timing without the tool set. However, I and others have done it although it is riskier and more complex. I suggest that you read thru some of my helpful threads that are timing related for ideas. I will be glad to help you if you decide to try it.

well i recon i am going to give it ago without the timing tool kit.. i have 9 years experiance on every make and model of car.. so hopefully i could get myself round this with alittle bit of advice..

what things do i need to make sure? the timing chains are still left on the motor at the moment.. any point marking everything and then try get them back to the same spot..? anything that i need to be locking incase they jump if so a tool will be made...

cheers steve :D
