Hey all

My Ex (4.0 OHV) has 143,000 miles on it and the engine seems to run just fine. I just pulled the valve covers and the valvetrain seems to be in great shape, looks almost new.

Would there be any performance benefit from replacing the timing chain at this point? Will it have stretched? Or what is the servicable life of the timing chain?

Thanks!

if it ain't broke, don't fix it. you'll know when you have timing chain issues and there wouldn't be any noticeable increase in performance or economy in changing related parts if you’re not having any problems.

Thanks, i'll leave it alone then. Thanks for the input.

My 96 4.0 OHV rocker arms LOOKED good too, from the top. Pulled the rocker shaft and found the rocker arms severly worn at the pushrod sockets, causing my valve train noise. I suspect previous owner did not change oil regularly as there was carbon buildup in the oilpassage in the rocker stand. You might want to look at them if you are having noise issues.
