So I've had the infamous "timing chain death rattle" for quite a while now. (just never really knew what it was) From what I've read I'm basically driving around a time bomb. The first thing I was going to try was replacing both the tensioners. From retail stores I'm looking about $110 for the two. $70 for the upper(front) and $40 for the lower(back) THEN....I stumbled across this http://www.ebay.com/itm/300594705924?item=300594705924&viewitem=&vxp=mtr It LOOKS ok to me but then again I'm no expert. Personally I'd be happy with a kit that doesn't have any chains. (Unless I'm missing something and those REALLY need to be replaced for some reason?)
From what I could tell by doing some googling is that it's a Cloyes brand. Now for $40 more the same seller has the same kit but WITH gears. Are new gears really needed?
The reason I'm going to the extreme of looking at the kit is because for less money I'm getting the tensioners AND everything else just in case the tensioners don't work out.
The person has 100% feedback and only 1 negative in the last year. The only thing that scares me is the fact that this kit is $100 where as damn near everywhere else you're looking at $300-$500.
Next item on the list after getting this straightened out is finding one of you that lives near Lakeland, FL and knows what the hell you're doing and wants to make some extra $$$$$ :biggthump lol
I appreciate the input guys!
BTW - I'm assuming the kit I linked to is for all four timing chains? I know It's missing some gaskets/bolts but gaskets I can get easy and had "planned" on re-using the bolts I already have.
