2013 Explorer 3.5L AWD. 211K miles all original timing chain. Got a P0017 code and I'm about to do the timing chain, VVT solenoid's and CAM phasers , CAM sensors etc. I made the mistake and did the water pump a few months ago, should have done everything else, but didn't so lesson learned. The chain is still on and I go to set my cam locks in place, I've lined up my crank sprocket dot at 4 oclock, phaser at 11 and other phaser at 1oclock. My front or driver side cam lock fit perfect on the head, the back one or pass side is 2 mm off, which makes sense bc I feel my timing is off, it's jumped a tooth or stretched chain etc. and the back side fits with the P0017 code Bank 1 issue
My question is : If I pull everything off do I just use a wrench and slightly turn that cam into place, install the cam lock and proceed to install the new phasers, chains, tensioners and all the other parts? It seems that would be simple to do, but sometimes the simple things may be wrong for some reason.
This Explorer has been a beast for me, love it, i drive 20K a year and have certainly got my moneys worth. Appreciate the responses
