I wanted to compare and see what kind of a deal I am getting. I went by the tinting place today and have an appointment on Wednesday.
They use Llumar and are going to do 5% on the front and 15% on the rest. He said that is the the darkest they can do. They said it would be $170 total.

Is this the DARKEST that anyone can have? Is it legal? I don't care if it is legal or not but he didn't say anything about not giving me a receipt and I thought they usually do that when the windows aren't legal.

I forgot to ask about getting some on the windshield. What percent would you guys recommend?
I know how it is hard to match the factory tint but he said the 5 and 15 would balance out? Has anyone had the same tint done that I am getting?

Thanks!!

well, yours being a 97, that means you have the "privacy glass." which means, it cant be matched. i have a 98 and i had my fatory tint matched last week on the the front windows. cost me $175 for my 4 windows (i have a sport, so 2 big windows and 2 little ones), because i just wanted my trunk windows matched. the price he gave you seems pretty good. i dont think mine are legal either and he gave me a receipt - i paid with a credit card too. i dont know if you can go darker - i always thought 5% limo was the darkest.

good luck.

Matt, the price sounds about right, ask the place if they are going to give you a recept. Because the 5% in the front is probably illegal. I live in Florida too. I think most places do anywhere from 20-30% for legal tinting. I got a '00 model and I got LLumar PP20 on front doors and ATR30 in the back. This set-up looks great and legal, but no pics yet. Balanced out, still lighter up front, but got rid of the factory glare. Make sure if you do get LLumar tint, get the warranty card, in something happens to the film, then any LLumar dealer should cover it. I create a post on this subject a while back, if you want just do a seach.

For what it is worth I went thought that whole "is it legal thing" in NJ with my 67 PU. It has all clear glass and no air. Summer driving is less than fun.
I wasn't lookng for a "black out look," but something to help cool the thing down a little.

It was like pulling teeth, but I finally got an answer??? NJ, in its wisdom or lack of, says only factory tint or factory tinted replacement glass is the only thing that is legal on the sides and front windshield. No after market tinting, even if it is very light tinting.

But get this.....the rear window?..."long as you can see out it". At that point, it seemed senseless to pursue the legal tint quantifiably or ask if I could get that in writing?

Bottom line:
I would have to replace all the glass.

So, stupid is, as stupid does. Why not tint the the sides windows anyway! When I go for inspection, roll down the windows and add a few: "Guys! What do you think? Hot enough for you?" Why do I think it would work.

Tell me, what DMV would go through the expense of buying a "Tint Meter," legally calibrated and accepted in a court of law. Maybe they use tricoders.

hey, the tinting limits differ from state to state. like here in california you are not legally allowed to tint the front windows at all. kinda sucks but almost every single tinting place will do it. i have 5% on my back windows and 50% on the fronts. its dark but not too dark, the front that is. the back windows are so dark that it makes the front windows darker also. so just find out your state regulations if you are worried about bein pulled over, other wise alot of places will tint anything and %.

I have limo tint on all rear windows of my 00 sport, it cost me around 150 canadian dollars, it is illegal for any tint to be on the front windows in canada.

My brother had that same combination done on his car (50% front, 5% rear), and the rear is so dark that you can't even tell that the front is tinted.
