- 2004 Ford Explorer
okay so this problem has existed with me since i bought the Explorer in November of 2012, but it's changed a bit over time.
pardon the over detailed story:
it's a 2004 Ford Explorer XLT, and the tire deflation sensor has been on since i bought it. at one point after about 8 months with the truck, my front right tire went flat- i threw on the spare, got the actual tire fixed, and yet the problem persisted. the sensor blinked and disappeared. within a week the deflation sensor became a permanant light on my dash. the people at Mavis' Tire said that they hit the tire with air in an attempt to listen for leaks, but to no avail, they couldn't find anything.
over the course of the next few months, three times did i hit the tires with more air at gas station
several months after that first incident, i was about to go out for a drive when i noticed my front right tire was low on air. i then walked over to the other side only to see the front left was actually flat. after a battle with the front left, which was the more flat of the two (in the middle of a college parking lot) i got home and got the two front tires filled again.
it's been several months since i got my tires "fixed" from a different place, and they've been consistent in terms of size- no ebb and flow with temperature or anything, and neither of them have gone flat. so i would imagine the sensor would disappear ? wrong. everytime i turn on the truck since i got them fixed for the second time, the sensor just goes on, blinks several times and then fades
so, any idea what this means? the explorer handbook that came with the car said that it was bad, but for the past 4 months or so it's just an annoying sensor that temporarily goes off. any idea how to get rid of it, or what course of action to take ?
