Did anyone catch Trucks this past weekend? My dad was asking about some kind of tire dressing they showed that you spray on and when it sets up you can toych it and it doesn't come off on your hand. Anyone heard of this stuff or used it before?

Does it still pick up dirt?

When Yolanda gets her car washed (weekly) or I get the Honda washed (semi-annually) we have to tell them "no tire shine". We live on a dirt road and after 1-2 days the tires are light brown with all the dust/dirt sticking to the tire shine.

We also learned, getting on the freeway right after getting tire shine on the tires means it will fling it onto the body..

From what I've read, this more or less goes on like a clear coat. I've read that it even smells like clear coat spray paint.

So once it dries, it should be dry to the touch and not fling off.

I think ill have my dad hold off until its been out a while.

Yeah I'll make sure he wait after reading all that.

Was excited to learn about this product, but after reading the reviews, I think I'm going to stick with my old routine.

I'm going to give it a try... Its $9 from Amazon via prime.

The complaints seem to be from people who want more shine or are not masking off areas..

I don't really want shine.. I want the tires black, like when they were new... and masking only takes a few minutes so that is no biggy.

The question I haven't seen answered is what does it look like as it wears off.

Mark, be sure to let us know how you make out!

There's this detail company called pro that use to sell this stuff called do all, best stuff ever. Wish they still made it.

The only thing tire shine is good for is at car/truck shows where you want shiny tire sidewalls and even shiny tire tread for some reason. Maybe it also helps when detailing a used car for sale.

It's useless otherwise though. Despite the marketing, it doesn't "protect" anything. Modern tires come with UV protectant layers and stuff in the rubber that is all the tires need for a long life. Call up and ask the engineers and chemists, they'll tell you. The chemicals in tire shine and rubber "protectants" actually damage these layers and can actually cause those tiny cracks in the sidewall. You can keep applying the stuff to try and hide it, but it eventually gets worse and worse until you need new tires.

If you do cart/truck shows, hey great, shine on. Otherwise, waste of money. Tire shine also sucks because it gets on the body as mentioned, and makes the shoulder of the tire slip during cornering until it wears off. Not safe.

I honestly have to agree with you on that. Idk why my dad likes it but he does. I won't use it cause my explorer goes off road too much.

From my "reading", especially the reviews, This stuff doesn't "sling" like normal tire shine. Also, people have reported it is not shiny, although I've seen some pics where it looks shiny.

I'm more looking for it to be black, not shiny.. Think new tire black..

Turns out it was $8 from Amazon so I ordered it. It has to ship ground so I'll have it in 5 days or so and then I say whether or not it will be shiny. Heck, I have 4 tires on rims in the shed I could try it on first but I don't think I'm that worried about it.

We also aren't worried about how it hurts the tires over time as we replace the tires about every 40k miles which is just over 1 year.

Duplicolor tshc100 tire shine update

Here is an update on how the tire shine from duplicolor is working..

Here it is after it was put on (about 1 hour ago). It is not wet. If anything, it feels slick but is dry. This tire has about 30k miles on it and it still turns black with the duplicolor stuff.

After a few days (not quite a work week) a treated tire looked like this. I scrubbed off the tire before putting it on to make sure there was no more wet tire shine or dirt on it. Sorry about the bad lighting in the pic (makes it grainy)

Here is the tire that didn't have the duplicolor tire shine on it. You can see how the dirt just clings to the tire.

Here is the mustang after I got it washed today. I then drove home and put on the duplicolor tire shine stuff. It is dry in this pic.

The Mustang still looks for having 220,x.. miles on it. At least from 10 ft :)

My conclusion is if you want black tires, use this stuff instead of the wet tire shine. After it dries ( 30 minutes) it is dry to the touch and is slick to the touch. An added bonus to this is that the dirt doesn't stick to the tires like a tire with wet tire shine or even an untreated tire.

Mark, thanks for taking the time to do the review.

Only put water-based products on tires and vinyl.

I have heard that before but we dont worry about it on our vehicle.

We change our tires out once a year (35k - 40k miles). At least on the mustang which is the only vehicle that we keep clean.
