Tire Monitor System

Ok,

I'm going to ask a dumb question again. (at least I'm good at something) How do I tell if my X has the tire monitor system. On start up it acts like it starts. If I go into the info center it says the monitor system is on. However when I let air out of the tire it didn't trip it. Did I not take enoug air out (dropped it 5 PSI) does it take a bit to register with the system? Just curious if I have that toy or not.

Easiest way to tell is see if you have steel valve stems. You have tire pressure monitors if that's the case. Other way to tell is to look for a indicator light on the dash. It's right under the tach, and looks like a cross-section of a squishy tire (best way I know to describe it). It should come on for a second or two when the engine is first started, then go out.

If memory serves me correct, most, if not all vehicles in the '05 model year were required to have TPMS. I could be wrong, but that seems to stick in my mind for some reason.

If neither hints help, call a Ford dealer with your VIN, and they'd be able to tell you.

Thanks for the response. If the metal stems are an indication then it looks like I probably have the tire monitoring system. Is there any read out in the info center to tell what the tires PSI reading is? I tried to find it but didn't see it anywhere. I also didn't see it in the manual. I've been known to miss things right in front of my face though. ( don't tell my wife I finally admitted it!)

The TPMS only indicates a tire that's lower than the pre-programmed minimum pressure. They don't read actual pressure anywhere in the vehicle's computers. It'd be nice if they did! I'd love that feature, but I don't think the TPMS is that sophisticated yet.

If the TPMS is triggered, does it automatically reset after adjusting the tire pressure? Or do you have to have a code reader to reset it?

My wife called me and her TPMS light turned on. I'll check the pressure and hope it goes away.
