I currently have 235/75r15 's on my 93 explorer. What exactly do these numbers mean, and what are the biggest tires I could fit on these rim? Could I fit, for example, 30's or 31's on my existing rims? Such as a 30x9.50r15? Or do I have to stick with 235/75's? The ones I have on know are Firestone's, what would be the bestand biggest tires I can fit without buying new rims? Any info is appreciated, thanks.

LT is Light Truck
235 is the section width.
75 is the the ratio between the section width and the width of the tire from the bead to the edge of the tire. The 75 means it is 75% of the section width.
R is radial
15 is the rim diameter

You could goto an LT325/60R15's(30.4") or a 31X10.50R15LT(30.8")without any major problems. Anything bigger then that may require some trimming.

The popular A/T tire in these parts is the BFG KO.

Some will fit 31" without any problems, some will rub. If you absolutely have to have 31", you should to take it to a tire shop and have them mount a set on for testing, under full compression and full turn. If you could live with 30", then you would not have any rubbing problems.

By the way, you don't have the recalled Firestones do you?

Test fitting is a good idea in theory, but not many dealers will do it.
