I will be looking for a set of tires before long. I have a set of all season tires on it now that are a bit wider than the factory size and a bit taller too. I have 16" wheels on a 02 mounty AWD. I would like to go with something a bit more all terrain not a really rough tire but something that will do better in the dirt and snow. The ones I have now I think are 255/70 16 but not sure. I will look later. Just wondering what is the best "biggest" AT tire I can do without mods or a bunch of scrubbing and stuff. I like the fenders filled up but not so much it scrubs. Thanks guys.

The stock tire size on a 2002 Mounty is 245/70/16. What you have on there now may of course be different, so double check.

If you go with something like a 265/70/16 you will get almost a full inch of added width to the tire, and a little more than an inch of overall diameter. It's roughly a 3.6% diameter difference over the stock size. The 265/70 will fit on the stock suspension, but depending on the tread pattern of the new tire, there may be slight rub at full turn...again, it's all in the aggressiveness of the tread.

As far as opinions on tires, I will tell you the 3 brands I have used on mine:

Bridgestone Dueler APT - Good treadwear, however they were a little loud for a "stock" sized tire in my opinion.

BFG A/T - These didn't do so well for me as far as treadlife goes, however they were very quiet on the road. They are a great all around tire, not so hot in the snow however, did ok on the beach and some offroad.

Nitto Terra Grapplers (what I have now) - So far have been very impressed with these. Have over 10k miles on them now, they wear very slowly, I get no road noise with them (mine are 285/75's....so it's a lot of rubber), and they do excellent in the snow (just had 8" drop here in the mountains and I have been tearing up the trails out here...they are awesome in the snow), as well as mud and beach sand.

Somebody please make a sticky thread for tire sizes!!!!

THepotroast thanks fot the info.
Excuse me, I thought forums were for asking and answering ?s for those who want to help out and for those who don't. Just don't read or answer.

Listen here newbie. I would gladly answer any questions I'm asked. But there are numerous members who ask about tire sizes. The answer is always the same without a lift. The problem solver would be a Sticky thread about tire sizes. I'm not upset with you there Stu boy, just wish people would search before they ask questions. Idk if you did or not. Just saying. Btw welcome.

Ok dude. So Got2bsticky what is your recomendation? Just joking, I tried searching but didn't turn up much of what I wanted.
