I have a 93 exploder with stock ride height. I don't plan on lifting it for awhile but it's in need of tires soon. So i figure i will upgrade and go with some nice BFG All-Terrains. Will 31x10.5 fit front and rear absolutely fit or should i go with a 30x9.5"?

I'm running through an auto with 3.73 rear.

31x10.5" is 30.7" tall where as 30x9.5" is 29.5" and stock is 29". I'm aware this will throw my speedo off some but is that the only side effect of running a larger tire? Will the fronts rub at lock with 31x10.5"?

What about a stagger 31x10.5" rear and 30x9.5" front?

Thanks.

no to the stagered.(you cant rotate tires)But you can run 31"s all the way around im running 32x11.5 on a stock 92 X with no mods to suspension and no trimming. It does rub at full lock, but only alittle bit.

i just got new 30x9.5R15 BGF AT T/A KO's today, they look good. i was thinking about the 31's but figured they would rub, and the 30's come close. Id go with the 30's

Its hard to say whether or not 31s will rub. Some people can fit 31s with no problems and others have to trim a bit just depends on how much your suspension has sagged over the years.

My rear sags some, I've been thinking about add-a-leaf. I've decided to go with 30x9.5s. They are a little bigger and wont hurt my gas mileage as much. I really don't think i need a tire as big as the 31s. This is mostly a street truck. I don't trail the truck much but winter is coming up and some better tires would sure help. Thanks for the suggestions.

nice choice on the bfg all terrains. the last brand new set of tires i purchased were the 30x9.50 all terrain ta k/o's for my 93 sport about 5 yrs ago, they have been retired from full time use but when ran had excellent handling, durability, and good wear.

Are you planning at lifting at all within the next year? How much off roading do you do now?

Because I know the BFG's aren't exacatly cheapo tires, but you'll spend however much on them, then when you lift you'll most likely want to upgrade your tires again to make it look right. Why not just buy regular tires and save some cash and save money in the long run?

Blacksheep Josh - I would plan on lifting if i got more into off roading, as of right now i hardly go offroading i just just go on little excursions every now and then but im wondering if thats because i didnt feel like the truck was capable.

Here we are a month later and i still have not ordered the tires yet. I have inspection this month and weather is soon to get ****ty so i need to make up my mind soon. Cant decide between 30x9.5 or 31x10.5. Big part of me wants the bigger tires but i would hate to order then and find out they wont fit. I have no prob trimming if they rub some but i don't want to find out they wont even come close to fitting and rub the inner fender well.

Speedo being off doesn't bother me, gas mileage probably wont be too much worse i'm leaning towards getting the 31x10.5 and having some fun with them. Any last opinions before i drop the ball?

i needed new tire's for winter, and even though im all stock ride hieght wise, i decided i would upgrade to 31x10.5's after reading up on this site.

truefully, best decision ive made with this truck yet. zero rubbing, even at full lock. if your doing under 35, your speedo is off like 1 mph. so its not anything to even worry about. ive been testing it on the speed signs that tell you how fast your going just to compare, and so far im usually right on point with it.

check out the link in my signiture. it has quite a few pic's with the new tire's mounted.

Gear wise, I would stick with 30x9.50s. And you stock tires don't measure 29". Most tires are at least 1" short of what the sidewall says, usually 1.5"s short.

Thanks, i had a look at your registry and your truck looks great. I removed the running boards on my truck, so i think they should fit alright. I like the rear disc conversion i've wanted to do that to my truck but i just replaced pretty much every part of the drum brakes so i might as well keep them.

thanks!

yea, i plan on tossing the running boards once i buy new lower replacement sections for my door sill area that is rusted out. i have a set of OEM skirts ill then install once the body is strong enough to hold them. lol.

i rebuilt my entire front brakes down to the lines and calipers even. then once i looked at my rears and how far gone they were, i decided that just swapping out the rear for a disc set up would cost me less, and be less work. and i can say im VERY happy with how they turned out.

deffinetly go with 31s.. your stock gears will be ok for this size and youll love the look. if you go with 30s and lift the truck even 2 inches youll regret not buying the 31s. the 30s will look tiny.

I figured the 3.73s were plenty for this size. If i had 3.55 or whatever the next lower set i probably would have gone with 30x9.5s. I just dont think ill be happy with the smaller tire knowing i can put bigger on. Looks like the cheapest place to order all 4 is front Summit with a $50 gift certificate. So the damage comes out right around $582 shipped. That's almost worth more then this truck lol. I think i'm going to paint the wheels black this weekend to give it more of an offroad look. May keep the lip polished well see. Now i just need some buddies to go off-roading with.

Thanks for the help guys.

you will dig the painted look. best .98 cents i ever spent. lol. def leave the lip unpainted though. gives it that race truck look. lol.

my daily driver is a 89 probe i paid $25 bux for a few years back. and i installed a flip out, 7 in touch screen dvd player in it. now thats a total waste of money on a car worth alot less!

i spent over 2 months checking my fav junkyard for a set of 31's. one day finally a suburban came in with BRAND NEW 31's. were talking still had the little knobby's and all. ended up getting them for 100 bux out the door. i was EXTREMELY lucky though.

Ya i used to hit yards all the time for this or my other car, but i kinda lost interest. You are right though there can be some great finds.
