Tired of Searching Hard shifts Blinking OD LIGHT

Ok just had a 5 speed transmission put into my 96 explorer used to be a 4 speed. Overdrive light blinks and the autozone reader said i needed a range sensor. Changed the range sensor and am still having the hard shifts in reverse, 1st, 2nd and when i engage 4 wheel drive. Seen a lot of people on here with similar probs but i cant get a difinitive answer. The mechanic told me that he had to switch the old range sensor from my old trans and put it on this new one cuz the old one did not match. Does any of this ring any bells for anyone?

Whoa whoa whoa, you put a 5r55 in a vehicle that used to have a 4Rxx? Not sure how thats going to work unless you also swap out the ECU because the ECU doesnt know there is another gear.

The ECU (aka the PCM) is the computer that manages the engine and transmission. It must match BOTH the engine and transmission in order for everything to work properly.

Are you sure it was a 5r55? The 5r55 has completely different wiring than the 4r70...

Sorry I meant the 4r44 or 4r55 - the 4r70 would never have bolted up to where a 4r/5r was.
