I just purchased replacement tires AND wheels from tirerack. Here's something to keep in mind.

If you look at the procedure that Ford has set in place, we're supposed to get the name and brand of tire being removed from our vehicles (Firestone Wilderness AT) put on the invoice.

I talked to Tirerack today, and they'll only put down Firestone Wilderness AT IF you're buying tires off the recommended list. If you get a bigger sized tire, or a better tire, or whatevers, if it's not on the recommended list, Tirerack won't put even the words FORD EXPLORER anywhere near your invoice.

Seems as though Tirerack may be going a little overboard on the cautious side, as they've pulled all of their aftermarket explorer rims and are officially only selling replacement tires at this time. They were happy to sell me a set of SVT Cobra R 17x9 with Pirelli Scorpion Zero 275/55/17 tires, but they wouldn't go near listing Firestone on the invoice.

SOLUTION: I talked to my Ford dealer, and the Service Rep told me that if I brought in the 4 new tires from Tirerack, that they (the dealership) would note what type of tires were being removed from my truck as they were installing the new wheels/tires. She also said I'd have to pay $24 for the work since I'm not doing the standard "replacement" of tires, but actually the "reimbursement" route.

So, if you find yourself in a similar situation with Tirerack, definitely give your local dealership a call. You've got to go there for them to process the reimbursement anyway.

BETTER SOLUTION:

If the people at your dealership are morons like they are at my local dealership (how can it take a whole day to put 4 wheels on the damn truck??) you have an alternative.

Same process as I described above... the only difference is that it doensn't have to be a dealership that you go to in order to get the wheels installed. According to the Ford Tire Inquiry Center, you can go to any mom & pop shop. JUST MAKE SURE THEY NOTE THE TYPE OF TIRES BEING REPLACED, and even the tires you brought to put on, for good measure.

Then take the install receipt along with your tirerack receipt and your DOT codes to the dealership to have them process the reimbursement.
