ok guys i'm new here but been an explorer owner for a few years now i have a 96 explorer sport 2wd manual, and the biggest problem i have is traction in the snow. i have like none. so i recently got an itch started reading on here and started off with a TT and i should be getting my shackles tomorrow for the rear, now what kind of tires would help with this problem of getting stuck but also can be driven on high ways and stuff with out the ride being to horrible. also i don't want to go broke buying them. very open for suggestions thanks in advance!!!

BFG AT KO

a decent limited slip would also help you out in the rear diff as long as you're easy on the throttle.

what size 31, 32, 33 and is there a big difference in traction when you go up in size

If you're only doing a TT and shackles, then you are probably not going to be able to fit 32s or 33's. Sometimes as the tire size goes up, the tread depth gets deeper too, but that depends on the tire. If I were you I'd go with 31's.

do you guys think that this upgrade in tires will make a noticable difference in traction for my 2wd compared to the stock tires. Oh and i was thinking about doing a bodylift but need to find out how much a kit for my truck cost and how involved installing one is.

the larger and better tires make a huge difference.

My 31" Perelli Scorpion A/T's are AWESOME in snow/sand/rain/mud and whatever else might be out there!!!

hey ru dawg is your explorer a 2wd?

Could you describe exactly how you're getting stuck a little better? Decent tires can make a big difference in normal, light snow, but some things aren't going to change no matter what tires you use.

Get 31s and the Perrelli Scorpions are great in snow.

No, I'm 4X4, but I hardly need it in snow. Before the Perelli's I had GY Wrangler RT/S's and I had to use 4X4 in heavy rain!!! Now I only use the 4X4 in heavy snow (lotsa big hills in my neighborhood) and for offroading of course!!

nvr, any of the big all-terrains would be a good buy for you. the pirelli's, bfg at's, bridgestone dueler AT revo, goodyear at/s (prob not as good as others), would all be a good buy. I agree that a limited slip or some kind of posi in rear would be great since it is 2wd. My brother had those damn bfg long trails on his tacoma and he got stuck on flat ground with barely in snow on the ground, he bought BFG at's the next week and walked throught the same stuff.
