Hey guys and girls i have 04 Sport Trac XLT and i was wondering how big a tire i could go without rubbing and what the best performing offroad/onroad tire is?

It says my axle is 42. I have absolutely no idea what this means. What kind of tires could i support with this axle?

Thanks!

265/75/16 is the biggest without a lift with a chance of slight rubbing. Without a lift I would advise 265/70/16. Are you looking for an all terrain tire?

i guess, i was looking at nitto terra grapplers or some BFGoodrich tires but im not sure what kind, i was also thinking of a 3" body lift too

take a look at Mastercraft courset MT or even the AT's you wont be disapointed...

this is the MT

x2 I have the MT's and They are cheap and I have yet to test them but they don't have much road noise. They do however spin easy when it is wet.

have you guys taken your ST in mud or sand? How does it perform offroad? i feel like they arent good offroaders. is this just me? Please shed some light on this if you can!

I have beat the hell out of my truck off road. I have AT tires and the truck doesnt perform great in mud, a locker is a must but this is the case with most trucks. Once I get my locker all will be good. Well, a winch also would be helpful.

hmm alright, so all in all, pretty reliable off road?

certainly.

i love those tires (hehe which is why i reccomended them) my old explorer had the mastercraft MT's and they were awesome. They cost me about 850 for a set of 4 installed. Biggest negatives were wet and icey conditions, take it easy there or you WILL be sorry.

agreed although I am having rubbing issues with mine and i have a 3in bl and a 2in sl and tt

hmm ok, are 4.10 gears(it says 42 on my door panel) good to support 32-33in tires?

I have 32" tires with a 3.73 and I can spin my tires no problem. I maybe wrong but I believe John is running 35" tires with 4.10 gears.

well thats good to hear, alright one more question.

I want to get a 3'' body lift and Ive seen some members of the forum who got the lift and a 2" torsion lift or twist too. What is a torsion lift and is it helpful? do i need it? What would you recommend?

Nah, with the body lift you can put 33's no problem. If you do a torsion lift you will also need a shackle lift for the rear.

ok so just the body lift would be good enough?
