Hello, I'm planning to get in the world of really off-road with my Expo, so, I have some doubts about the standard things that come with it.

The Expo is a 91 XL ,has an A4LD auto transmission, so, I don't think if an auto trans will have a good off-roading performance. Am I wrong ?

And, what kind of terrain is better for the Expo ...Mud,Rocks?

In many conditions an auto tranny is better for offroading. This is because you don't fry a clutch, you get uniform power, and it's one less thing to worry about.

Explorers can be good at almost any terrain, depends how you build it. I've done mud, rocks, grass, woods, etc in mine; almost any surface. Good luck!

the ex in stock trim it pretty capable..... however early model explorer trannies suck.... they tend to overheat then blow up....... make sure you have a tranny cooler and clean fluid... if it is burnt you are already in trouble..... and make sure your hubsd still work if you have auto hubs.. or seriously think about converting to manual hubs and make sure your shift motor for the tcase is good unless you have a manual tcase.... thats about it.... maybe get some 31s too

I have an auto tranny, and it works really good. There are good and bad things about auto and manual. But my "rebuilt" tranny works great. Stock auto trannies seem to break prematurely for some reason.

Thanks fot your responses, they're very important, I can feel me more sure riding offroad.

I forgot something, it is about the suspension, obviusly a lift kit would be very helpful, , but, Do I have to change or add something to the suspension??
It has Monroe Sensatrac front and rear.
