Haven't run across these in the forum as to the method of releasing them from the filter. Same as the engine side?...as in sliding the tool down into the connector to release pins?
Appreciate anyone's thoughts...trying to get all my ducks in a row before attempting. <03 Sport Trac>

Perfect!! After spinning the connector around I can see the locking tab as illustrated.
Funny that your reference differs from my 03 Shop Manual for the sport trac/sport models....shows three different connections but not this one. Your ref looks to have come for the 04 edition. Huh? Oh well, leave it to Ford to have incomplete reference materials.
Much thanks for the clarification!!

Yeah, the 03's were the same old same old so I went to the 04 and it looked like what you had. Glad it helped.

Just sharing my success steps (for others), to replace the filter which seemed to take longer to jack up the truck and support with jack stands to get more arm clearance then it did to swap the filter; 1) pulled the fuel pump fuse, ran engine that releases pressure <remember you're dealing with a possible 60psi> 2)sprayed a little brake cleaner into the single side fitting to clean out any gunk.3) Used the "gold" disconnect tool that's illustrated throughout this forum and connector slid right off.<note: only gas that flowed came from the filter, so used the cap from the new filter to stop>.4) Pulled filter from bracket so it would hang down and disconnected the opposite two lines.5)Connected two lines on new filter.6)Replace in bracket.7)Connect single/engine side.8)Replace fuse. DONE. Dealers out here in so. cal want $75-80 bucks to do this.
