Good Morning;

I have a 1994 Ford Explorer XLT, automatic.
I just had a tune-up done, and fuel filter changed, to try and resolve some issues, no power, etcetera.
The truck is running a lot better, but the mechanice suggested, and I agree the tranny needs to be serviced.
My mechanic called a transmission connection he has, and he explained the symptoms....(the same as posted by most, and were advised to adjust aod tv cable), the Transmission guy suggested bring it in for a tranny linkage adjustment.

So....after reading several posts, and looking at pictures..I believe I found the grey plastic elbow piece on the firewall, which contains thye cable.

Apparently you "squeeze or push" the button.
Thats where my problems occur.
There is a rusted d shaped cover on the top of the grey thingy...which wouldn't move...no-how!
I felt around, couldn't find the "button"..to release the cable.

So out in the dark til 130am..I ended up prying the rusted "D" shaped thingy up a bit....and sprayed wd-40...now its stuck up 2 mm..and I can't get it to close tight.

Is this the button to release the cable..that I've possibly ruined.
And if not, can someone give me idiot proof directions on the location, and specifically how to press the button to release..lol
Okay and now really embarrassing, if I'm not at the right cable where is it...

Any advice would be appreciated!!!

Thanks

Terry

your transmission is an A4LD

it does however have a kick down cable
You have located the correct adjustment button

It is D shaped and grey or blakc in color.
You press down on the part you are calling a cover I believe, then pull the cable out. then the next time you depress the gas pedal it will pull the cable and lock it into position, it will be properly adjusted.

Alot of people remove the slack from their throttle and kick down cable with zip ties, a metal spacer, fishing weights, I have seen all sorts of solutions.

If your kick down cable adjuster is broken then you may simplyt want to replace the cable, it is not difficult or terribly expensive.

If you are having issues with your A4LD transmission do not expect adjusting the kick down cable to help. This is not like the input cable on a AOD transmission, the AOD is heavily dependant on its cable for proper transmission operation, your A4LD transmission is not.

Thanks for the reply 410!

I appreciate your help.
It turned out the AOD adjuster thingy was seized.
I soaked it with a lubricant for a day, and it freed up.
I actually adjusted both cables today, as suggested in the cable mod post, after reading your reply.
It made a huge difference!!
The truck is more responsive, and shifts nicely.
There was at least 1 1/2 inches of slack in the accelerator cable.
I fixed it by taking up the slack with a lead fishing weight.

All is good again with my truck.

Thanks so much for your advice, and time.

Take Care;

Terry

its a kick down cable

AOD is a V8 transmission

Your transmission is an A4LD

Your kick down cable is self adjsuting, meaning once you press the pedal all teh way to the floor again its going to adjust itself back

1.5" of slack in the throttle cable = somethings wrong!

but glad you got it working again/better
