to swap out trans or not to swap out trans that is the question?

Ok - totally hypothetical situation here

say an individual had a -hmmmmmmm- 1997 AWD vehicle w/ 54,000 miles and a slight torque converter shimmy (i would be fairly confident can be easily cured by trans maintenance)

and lets say that individual had the ability to have their trans and converter replaced w/ freshly remanufactured units that included a 2yr warranty for only $50.00

if you were this hypothetical chum

I have seen plenty of "rebuilt" engines that were not nearly as good as factory. Know your rebuilder well.....

good point - but here i'm actually talking about a factory refurb unit, my concern is the same as yours though - even though it's a factory refurb unit (which all Ford warranty replacements are) should i be concerned about quality? i know the 4R70W is supposed to be a great trans.
