Hi all...
Just picked up a 91 Explorer 4x4... it was an alternative to a street bike, which my wife and family were against. Besides, now I can do day trips with my wife and dog, and very much look forward to exploring the many back country trails of southern California. I looked the vehicle over closely, and drove it on the freeway without any serious noises, leaks, etc. After sleeping on it, and decided to go for it. Unfortunately, on the way home, something in the drivetrain started making a terrible noise. I'm thinking it might be the throwout bearing, as the noise seems to subside with the clutch pedal in. Last night I drained the transmission fluid, only to find the old fashioned 80-90w oil. From what I could determine, this FE should use Mercon. Anyway, enough rambling.... I hope to use the forum to help me get up to speed on the best way to take care of my new found activity....
