Although i sold my 06 last month, i know what your talking about. To answer your question no i didn't think it was totaly useless. I could put my sunglasses up there and they never fell off. Seems to me you just might be driving a bit too fast. Lay off the right peddle a bit eh?
Definitely too slick. I bought my 06' used and kinda assumed someone took the rubber mat out of it, and I would grab one from the JY, but I guess there wasn't one to be taken lol My 07' fusion had a removeable rubber insert in the dash console. Time to fab something I guess.

I was thinking if there was color matched 'Dip & Grip' or something like it I could paint maybe just the ridges with it.
Or get some of the ZAGG's invisishield and put it up there.
