Two years ago I had to limp out of the Fordyce trail with no rear driveshaft. So I was in front only. I had to drive about 40 miles of two lane highway before I got to a town. What's the fastest I should've driven. Hehe, it kinda sounds like a math word problem.

I say anything over 45-50 can't be good on it, but what do I know ? ........

Why can't it be good, it should be able to hold up to the force shouldn't it? I thought that the limit was like 60 for 4WD HI? So technically you're not in 4wd.

top is 50 says in the manual

It took you two years to ask this question? Kinda random but i think 50 is supposed to be the fastest you should go in 4hi.

I know, two years is a long time. But my front end was making some noise and I thought I might have done some long term damage. I went about 55 I think. I do remember it making some gurling noises when I stopped. Kinda like it was boiling. It didn't occur to me before I did the "high speed" run that I might not be able to do regular freeway speed. I guess it's time to do the solid axle swap.;)

where does it say you can't go over 50 in 4 hi? my book on my 94 say's you can do any speed in 4 hi but you arn't supposed to shift in to it above 45 i think

Check with Rick. One time he drove back to Arizona from Truckhaven with FWD only. That takes 5 hours at freeway speed!

If a train leaves detroit doing 50 mph and a train leaves dallas doing 70mph..................

ive also done the front wheel drive conversion to my first gen explorer after severely screwing up the rear driveshaft. i didnt take it over 40 MPH, but it was still pretty cool. all i have to say is 2 wheel drive low, front wheel drive only is an awesome combination for smoking tire.

thw whole week of truchhaven 2002, my truck never left 4x4..... and i did 80 mph+ to the dinner from camp :)

But Jim we all know you're 'special' and so was your truck.;)

last winter I had mine to 70ish in 4 high for about 15 miles. Didnt hurt anything.

You guys are all talking MPH, not k's right?

i think as long as you were in 4 high you could probably do 55 or so.
