Top speed for the 5.0L

One way to tell if you are hitting the limiter. Older vehicles such as yours will turn fuel off and then re-enable. It will be obvious if you are on the speed limiter. 110mph on 31's is a dangerous proposition, especially if they are all terrains. Be safe!-j

I don't know about our 2nd gens, I know the first gen's will cut fuel and you get the scary "bucking" when it kicks back in. From what I've experienced with 2nd gens is it'll hit the limiter and it'll stay as far as it's at. Like it idk... it just smooths out and everything is consistant.

I've had my 4.0 up to 90+ according to my friend's 01 ram 1500 which I happened to be racing at the time. (I was winning by a hair)

i have a 2001 xlt 5.0L programmed with a super chips programer. with it set on the preformace 91 oct. setting and raised speed limmiter i had the speedo pinned at 120 mph driving on I95 from MA. to FL. (driving at night) for about 1/3 of the trip. with good year 235/75-15 (stock tires) and i thought it rode pretty smooth for an suv.

I've been told by mechanics that I have a "race car" setup when it comes to the suspension and general setup.. it's kinda true.. the older mustangs had a simular setup IIRC. (solid axle in the rear, IFS up front?)

Umm... NO, that's not a race car suspension

lol.. idk.. it's just what the guy said.. I thought it was amusing..; so I shared.

I have a question for you actually... how close are your headers to the steering shaft?

Maybe this will give some insight to it... the person who told me was a Sears "mechanic".. haha

LOL.. Sears and mechanic shouldn't go in the same sentence.. Can you see Russia from your house? :D just messing with you.

Just so all of you know, as you try to push the limits of speed with your vehicle, the amount of power needed is squared as the speed goes up linearly due to wind resistance. Going from 100 to 110 takes significantly less power than going from 110 to 120, etc.

Race suspension...get real...

Haha.. anyways.. lets get back on topic here..
My ball joints are going out..... arg!

Anyways uh..... yea... speeding is bad..

did this thread die or what?.. I am so lost..

How are you ball joints at all related to the top speed of an explorer?:thumbdwn:

Why is it a "race car" setup?

He said he couldn't get the alignment perfect, right on the dot because I have a race car setup.

I'll be visiting a more reputable shop in the future, I looked at the spec sheet.. they're close enough though for now.

I've grown to despise Sears and Napa.

Nothing, I have the same setup as you.. I'm not claiming to have anything special. I was just sharing what the idiot said to me

Somebody send that mechanic back to Matchbox car repair skool...'cause he ain't even qualified to work on them:rolleyes:.

I agree.
