Top Speed ?

78 MPH, Interstate 90. Did do 75 once pulling my pop up camper with ball on the bumper, since put a hitch on it.

I am not in a big hurry to get anywhere, I have 3 kids and lifes too short. In my small, very close knit town of 1200 people, we just had two 16 year olds decide they were going to do 90MPH on a gravel road in an S10 Blazer. They rolled it, and one kid had his seat belt cut him in half and was killed instantly and the other kid was in a coma for 3 days before they decided to pull the plug. Be careful out there.

Fastest I have ever gone in a car was 140 MPH in a station wagon. My brothers Subaru Legacy- he said he still had pedal left. That was fast.

117... was clocked by the CHP in a 70 zone -$400 fine but my vehicle wasn't impounded (my first infraction)... my speedo was passed the 120mph mark.. shows you how much it varies at high speed. Oh, its a 4.0 OHV with the 5spd (5r55e).

Learned my lesson - fastest i drive now is like 80.. speeding is wayy too expensive.

My uk ex gets very light and feels a little unstable after bout 90 but the front end is a little tired (98 SOHC). I used to do 120 in a little fiat X 1/9 (uprated). A couple of years back i had a company car that was a new jeep cherokee CRD and was late for a flight so i got on the motorway(freeway) and sat at 125 for 2 hrs. Stable and i was impressed, tho that was the only thing i liked about the car. Oh and it was branded with Jameson Whiskey logos (work)

I'm pretty sure that my ex had some previous work done to the engine by the original owner. The guy that I bought it from said that, he had an " intake/exaust porting job done to it, and axle regearing"? By the way, rjcooperss396 how do you know my body weight?

I have a 1995 4 door and it weighs 4520lbs without me in it and with a 1/4 tank of gas. I guessed that yours would be a couple hundred pounds less since it's a Sport. I have a 1994 Cobra that put down 471rwhp and I've taken it to 170mph. At 165 the car started to float and didn't feel as stable. At 170 the front end started to drift so I back out of it. The aerodynamics on the Explorer are terrible and with only 160hp (flywheel) it just won't have enough power to do 138mph.

To give you an idea on how much of a difference the frontal area makes I'll give you an example. I recently ran my Cobra at California Speedway running the Roval. I have a buddy who races there frequently with C5 Corvette which has less frontal area than my Cobra so less wind resistance. His Vette put down 460rwhp at the time and on the front straight he was able to reach 150mph before entering turn 1. I'm only able to reach 135mph in the same section with more rwhp. The faster you go the more resistance there is.

Here's a video of my Cobra on that straight.

my old 93 sport hit 120 according to my gps (speedo stops at 85 but figured out that once the needle hits the OD on the gear selection its 115 and it keeps pushing but the needle is buried)on the open straight highway with 245/75/15's i still had room to go but saw lights coming up infront of me in the distance so i hadda slow down. and my 02 shuts me down at 110 with 245/75/16

i hit 78 in the 1/4 and on highway Ive had my needle reach the D and still had PLENTY left, don't know how fast though.3.73 and 33x12.50 AND YES IT WAS VERY SCARY!!!im putting 4.88s in now so we will see how fast it is after. ive hit 163 in my (93 probe gt fully built and 150 nos) and it still had some left, just ran out of room and felt like i was floating off the ground.
