I have a 95 Sport "Expedition" model. I noticed the last few days that while holding steady speed between 55 and 70 that the torque converter seems to be disengaging at random. Any ideas?

My cruise control also has an issue where after it is engaged for 10 minutes or more, it won't re-engage after hitting the brakes or turning it off, until after it has "cooled off" for about 10 minutes. It will work fine all day as long as I don't have to tap my brakes or turn it off.....

Anyone have any input on these? As far as the cruise control goes, I know it's not the brake switch because it does the same thing if I turn the cruise off and back on. It still has to "cool down" for 10 minutes before it will re-engage.

Your cruise problem is likely related to the pressure switch on the master cylinder.

Your cruise problem is likely related to the pressure switch on the master cylinder.

That's a good point. If that is the case, it is a very simple fix. Mine was actually leaking this fall. Fluid from the master cylinder was working it way through the switch and leaking out. The cruise control still worked oddly enough.

I wish I could remember the price of the switch. I know it wasn't totally outrageous because I would at least remember that. If you do replace it, you might question whether it is the right part or not because it has an adapter harness to make the connection. If it didn't have that you would have to splice it in yourself. The adapter harness on the new switch plugs into the connecting clip that had been plugged directly into the old switch.

As for the TC lockup question, are you trying to hold the vehicle at that speed with your own foot, or is it occurring while using the cruise control? Are you traveling up and down hills? Every time the throttle position goes to idle (i.e. when you lift off the pedal), the PCM unlocks the torque converter. That's completely normal.

Now, if you are steady-state, level ground cruising with the cruise set, and the TC is locking and unlocking, then there's a problem...
