i was driving my x on the highway today and i noticed that the rpms were going up and down slightly. it would vary between 2100 and 2500 while goin 60. i could feel it changing, i had the trans replaced with a rebuilt one with 1000 miles on it a few months ago. the guy that did the work didnt speak english and i dont speak spanish, my boss was the translator. i had a converter but it was the wrong one so the guy reused my old one, i didnt know until i got it back. i thinking the TQ is locking and unlocking constantly.

Could also be related to the TC solenoid.... the convertor locks and unlocks on command from the computer based on various inputs.... and then commands the TC solenoid to lock it up.

no i bought a rebuilt tranny with a 1000mi on it. from what my boss told me the guy "cleaned out" the old converter before he put it back in. i didnt want him to reuse the old one, and if i had known before i got it back he reused it i wouldnt have taken it back until a new one was put in. i thought about the TC solenoid being bad too im going to have to take it in and have the trans checked again.

i dont know what he did. all i know is my boss told me he said it looked "perfect" when it was reinstalled.

Absent a fragged tranny necessitating a rebuild, reuse of the old TC is not the absolute no no as might be suggested. If you had a fragged tranny then the best advice is replace the TC for sure.

I'd investigate the inputs to the TC solenoid. You could have something as simple as a failing VSS.

the old trans wasnt wasted, i had no O/D but i was able to fix it all it was 2 broken wires hanging off back of the trans. 3rd was slipping but it was still driveable.

Find out if the solenoid is commanded to lockup, if so investigate the solenoid and the spool. If not find out why not...like I said the VSS sensor is often implicated, or you can have a shorting brake light switch...things like that.

I doubt seriously it is the TC itself.

i didnt take my x in to get checked out yet, but it does the same thing if im barely on the throttle no matter how fast im going.

turns out the prob was the VSS, mine was in 3 pieces. changed it and its fine.
