I picked up a "rebuilt" trans and tc a couple weeks ago that came out of 88 b2 (2.9efi) and i was wondering if the tc would work with my 4.0? or do i need to get a new tc?
It Will Work , But it will not work the same as a 4.0 TC or Trans , The BII trans and TC are designed for a lower HP motor , I know for a fact because I have a BII trans and TC In my 91 Navajo , I also don't have OD so make sure the plug on the driver side for the TCC lockup for OD is the same before You Put it in , Also the older BII Trans are missing 2 bottom bolt locations on the Bell Housing . As seen in this pic , Left is a 91-94 A4ld , Right is an 87-88 BII Trans ..
I was told you have to use 2 of the 3 wires from the stock wiring and connect them to that plug , but my OD is shot on my trans , I put it into OD and it slightly pulls then when you give it gas it does nothing at all , Must have been shot when I bought it , I tried to do with wiring to that plug and it didn't help me any .
also three more things, first the shift lever is different on the b2 trans what should i do about that?
VS.
Second is the tc a lower stall than the 4.0 or higher stall?
Third would you recommend swapping the bell housings?
You will have to Remove and replace the shift linkage , Not hard , but not easy either ,The BII TC is a lower stall , so it takes the 4.0 More Rpm to get up to the same speed as a 4.0 TC , You could Swap bell housings , but you would need to buy new gaskets and possibly rubber O rings for the bolts , and if the 4.0 bell housing was leaking fluid , you would want to get a new TC pump bushing installed
I'll prob leave the bellhousing alone then seeing as i still have to buy tires and have the exhaust fixed. do you know of a thread that tells you how to remove the shifter link because i spent the last 2 hours trying to find one and couldn't.
I'm not fully sure on the thread to remove and replace the linkage , But I can Offer Some words of wisdom on that , There is a Metal pin going into the aluminum case that holds the shift linkage , you will have to unbolt from the inside , and Remove a small clip I do believe , Once you have both of them flipped over and looking at the linkages with the pans off , you will get a general Idea of what needs to be done
sorry for not responding yesterday , My mother passed away yesterday , I have not did an alignment after the 2" Skyjacker coils, I put 2.5" on my sig because it gave me roughly 3" of lift due to my stock coil being sagged so much , and I have heard of some people getting at least 2.5" to 3" of lift from them
